I have win xp and have installed DOSbox but I dont know how to get the game of Zorek Nemesis to play, I have installed the 1st disc and up comes the message install disc 1.but no further. I have quite a few older games like Shivers and Gabriel Knight, and would dearly love to play them on my XP.
Can a forum member guide me through the installation and to run please. 😢 🙁

Many thanks MiniMax, I tried to follow your 60 sec guide to run in DOSbox, the problem I am up against is in MY Docs, creating a folder, I tried typing in the "C :\ etc and got message that syntax and punctuation is not permitted, I am trying to give the folder a filename in the filename format but without any success. How do I get the syntax into the folder name.

You don't need to type the C: stuff when creating the folder. Go to your My Documents folder, create a sub-folder, DOSBox stuff and inside that create the MyGame folder.

Now the full path to MyGame is
C:\Documents and Settings\SteamMan\My Documents\DOSBox stuff\MyGame.

Please be sure that the paths match EXACTLY.
"DOSbox stuff" is not equal to "DOS BOX STUFF"

First you need to decide on which of your optical drives you want to use with DOSBox. D or E ? Whichever you choose, you should do a

mount D x: -t cdrom

where x is either D or E.

Next, do a

D:

do a

dir

and see it DOSBox can see the install program on D:

Wow I didn't know there was a DOS version of this game. I'll need to see if the one I have has DOS support too. I never tried it anymore because I don't rate its chances of running well in XP.

Very many tnx to both Minimax andto Red avatar, I got as far as entering (D:\>dir /w ) ok and up came the directory of D I typed at the D: setup.exe, and I got message that this program cannot be run in DOS mode.
Surely if it wont run in the DOS mode how the devil did it run on win 98?????, which meas that it should run on XP surely. I typed at D prompt a few of the setup and inst as stated in the directory but all came up illegal commands.I shall try again using SHIVERS game by SI ERRA.

Maybe because it is a Windows program and not a DOS program?

Hint: The emulator is called DOSBox, not WinBox.

> which meas that it should run on XP surely.

Maybe it does. Have you tried right-clicking on the SETUP.EXE => Compatibility Mode... => and selected to run it in Win98 mode?

PS: Not sure if you can do the compatibility thing directly on the CD. You might need to create a shortcut to SETUP.EXE on your desktop, and then set comp.mode on the shortcut.
