Greetings,
I am going to be running some experiments with 86box and with Moslo Deluxe on a real Pentium III system. In 86box, I threw together a Super Socket 7 build with a Pentium 166. On the Pentium III, I will be using Moslo Deluxe to bring it down to a Pentium 166, using whatever video cards I have lying around, and installing Windows 95 OSR2 on an SD card (I have an SD-IDE adapter.) Many of the 86box Jenkins updates revolve around Matrox cards, and I am getting random errors when installing Windows 95 or certain games on the 86box machine, and even some crashes. Back in the day, I ran the original release of Windows 95 on a Pentium 90 (overclocked to 100Mhz) and later added a Diamond Monster Voodoo, and it ran flawlessly until I stopped using it.
Since I will be pairing a Voodoo card with whatever card I choose for the 86box build, can anyone recommend a card from the list of many cards available in the options? I know what some of the physical card recommendations are, so I am hoping for some anecdotes concerning experiences with 86box and video card selection on a WIn95 build. I have downloaded drivers for some cards, but it takes a long time to choose a card, find and download drivers, install, format, repeat...
The experiments will concern building a stable system with good Win95 and late MS-DOS 2d support, 3dfx support, and stability vs Moslo Deluxe on a physical Pentium III. I am running a 5900x, 6900 Xt, and 32GB RAM on the host machine, and whatver Pentium 166 build I create usually averages at 100% with occasional super-quick dips to 98-99% and sometimes quick jumps to 101-102%.
If you built a Pentium 166 with Windows 95 in 86box with good stability and results, which 2d card did you use?
Many thanks!
