I will update my first post to reflect the alternative installer first, and then add the other MW2 games as well.

Played around with some things.
Changed all the xcopys to copy-item because powershell sometimes ran it in the PS window, and sometimes spun up external CMD windows leading to out of order execution.
Same with the attrib.

I believe this should work still on all the versions but I haven't tested them.

If you want to play around and figure it out, there's a couple of PS scripts attached that can create hashes for a directory tree, and then compare the stored versions to the current.

Well we didn't install the game, so there is no registry either...

I am aware it's there. I don't really see an issue. It's harmless.

Of course I checked.

How do you say it's harmless? You can't start a mission...

I feel the only thing needed is the registry to be installed, using the script.

The -Mercs3dfx-... Text comes up with all games (different for each game ofc) <--- is harmless

What was the resolution set to before you start the mission?
Most apps create missing reg keys if they're not there.

If not, do you know which ones they are and their setting?
Again, I don't have that edition and all the others work.

Hi. I didn't test the game since the last time. And unfortunately, it will be quite a few months (probably June when I can come back to it) before I can get back to it again.

Oh I changed the link now. I wanted to use the one I edited prior to it (that one with many 3dfx folders, also because that looks more easily understandable for me and also. I can locate quicker)

I'm curious, is there any reason people prefer the windows versions of MW2 over running the patched (1.1) DOS version in DOSbox? A long time ago I used to fight to make it run in Windows, but for the past 15+ years whenever I've felt like playing through some missions, I'll just boot up DOSbox and run the game in 1024x768.

I've always found the texture changes and bilinear filtering on the 3D accelerated versions to be a bit so-so. I thought they looked great for a hot minute in 1998, but not so much as the years progressed.

This part is debatable, and one of the reason someone could play the Windows (accelerated) versions

Hands up I admit it was down to laziness. I didn't want to configure stuff and since I had Voodoos I figured might as well go Glide...
For me they are like diesel vrs gasoline/petrol. Both have advantages and disadvantages

They're different in other subtle ways, but mainly I always wanted to try the dynamic salvage properly in mercs titanium.
Plus with this thread it was a bit of a coding challenge to automate all the steps.

I think they look pretty great (considering) in 2k res - via DG voodoo.
The HUD is still 640 or 800, but that's ok.

Give it a try you might like it 😉
It's not like it's 40 steps to give it a try.
Just run the installer I made with the CD.
30 secs later you'll be in the game.

Hi Myne, I have downloaded your mw2Installer file. But as a common user I have some difficulty of understanding the steps taken in order to install and setup each games respectively (MW2, GBL and Mercs).

So could someone please show or make a full guide on how to install, patch and setup those games. Maybe via text or Youtube video. Some tutorial please. I have downloaded MW2 3DFX Orchid Edition from archive.org, GBL Titanium Edition from some link in Abandonware website and Merc Titanium Edition from the same website I've downloaded GBL.

Many people out there should know and aware about y'all efforts. We all want to experience MW2 games especially those who are never really had the opportunity to enjoy the game during its heyday like myself. Many thanks.
