ati branded card before so thought I'd give it a shot and see if it'll surpass the voodoo 3 it's replacing. Still kinda "sketchy" on what
drivers to use for win98 and if it'll need directx 8 or not.

Latest purchase, a first generation 478 motherboard, PC133 RAM and FSB 400, a P4 1700/256 CPU is included, initially I check the operation, then I expand the RAM up to 1.5 GB, with three modules of 512 MB each, the chipset is Intel 845, unfortunately it doesn't have the fastest RDRAM, but the slowest SDRAM, the card model, I think it's ECS, is P4IBAS, later maybe I'll change the CPU, with a faster one I should have in 2400/400/512 , although I don't actually have a willamette, and maybe if I want to keep one, I'll exchange it for a 1900/400/256.

While not very retro... an ASUS RoG G71G w/ 9800M GS should arrive tomorrow. Quite interesting to see what a mobile 9800 can do. Also the Radeon 9800SE will come along 😀

It's missing case elements... nothing a spare broken X71S can't provide tho - the case used for the RoG G71G is exactly based around the X71S.

Still on the look out for a Opteron 154 or a Opteron 185 both of which are the FX-57 and FX-60 equivalents. (The Opteron 156 would also be nice but its a very rare beast and at 3Ghz would be the fastest stock CPU for 939)

I was lucky to find a 154 for (relatively) cheap when my 180 died mysteriousely.
For my top 2005 system, i think a fast single core is better than a slightly slower dual. That would probably not be true for a 2006 system.

I agree, right now my only single core Opteron option is a 152 at 2.6Ghz .. which I may use over the 180, not sure if Opterons can be overclocked out of the box, if so I may just bench both and see which one clocks higher.

I do have a San Diego based 4000+ which is another single core option, this should OC rather well.

Good deal, but I prefer drives with 50- or 68 pin connectors.

Had to jump on this deal, 10 80GB WD 7200 RPM HDDs for 20 bucks, they are Sata but I have plenty of adapters and they are pretty much the right size for DOS/Win9x to not cause partition size issues. (One is a Seagate)

Dont normally bother with spinning rust but they are good for DOS/Win9x and the drives look in great condition and 20 dollars for 10 of them is a good deal.

I really like the Radeon. I had to choose between one of those and a Geforce 2 GTS for my main retro build. The Radeon is technically better, I think, but Geforce 2s are more common and have better drivers. That's a great looking card you got too.

This thread is more of a continuous stream of chatter for those who are subscribed to it, rather then a catalog of purchases. It's not really meant to be read from start to finish.

Today I got those:
-ECS Elitegroup K7VZA Rev 3.0 (VIA KT133A/686B) motherboard with 128MB PC133 SDRAM in it and a AMD Duron 850 MHz (Spitfire core) + PentAlpha CPU Cooler (not-so-good shape, with bulged/blown caps) (but it's working!)
-Western Digital Caviar WD400BB-75DEA0 40GB ATA/100 HDD (working, no bad sectors!)
-some Realtek RTL8139D network card
-some AGP 32MB videocard (not-so-good shape, I/O shield cutted at bottom, but PCB is unaffected happily)
-350W LPF2N ATX PSU (PSU works, it went into my Matsonic MS8137C+ rig)

Any opinions?

This is what I do as well. It helps me keep a thumb on what kinds of things people are interested in at the moment.

bought a very worn and dirty 486dx-40 machine off ebay.
the motherboard is toast, leaky varta battery.
a few useful comonents, i/o controller, hard drive, video and ram was salvaged.
and also this beauty which will house my new 486 build.
