Hello everyone,

I'm in need of some advice on where to find an adapter for an old computer. Specifically, it's a Compaq LTE 5300. The original adapter is 18V, 1.9A. If I understand correctly, I need to stick to 18V, but the amps can be higher since the laptop will only draw as much power as it needs. However, I'm quite lost when it comes to the connector. The current one (its end) measures 1 cm in length and 0.5 cm in diameter. Are these connectors named somehow? I assume that in the 90s, standardization wasn't very common. I'd like to make sure and buy something that will be correct on the first try 😀 Thanks a lot. If anyone is more familiar with this or has been through a similar situation, your input would be greatly appreciated. Pictures are attached. Thanks again.

5 mm barrel connector .

The inside diameter is another matter

mentions 5.5mm outer diameter & 2.1mm inner diameter for your laptop.

Right to repair is fundamental. You own it, you're allowed to fix it.

cool page! thanks for sharing! Am I right that I have to choose 18V and anything higher than 1.9 in the current value?

yes, you might get away with a deviation on the voltage and the amperage as long as you remain equal to or higher than the power being voltage x current, ie 18 x 1.9, being 34.2W.
But best to just stick with the voltage, higher amperage is no problem.

Standard 19V modernish laptop power supply will be just fine. Nothing is powered directly from 18V inside a laptop, there are DCDC converters all the way down.
