I am trying the to play this awesome game once again, but I am using a mounted virtual disk, daemon tools.

I have followed the guide from Black screen in Crusader: No Remorse

I can get the game to start up, but upon getting into the gameplay, I can only see characters, the HUD and the phrase "nullshape t189 f0" streaming continuously down the left side of the screen, otherwise it is entirely black.

This is what my mount commands look like:
mount C C:\Crusader
mount E C:\Crusader1

"E" has replaced D in the games config for the disk drive letter, and is the name of the virtual disk drive. However DosBox doesn't recognise that E: exists so I've copied all the files to a directory C:\Crusader1

E is your cdrom drive? Then try "mount d e:\ -t cdrom".
Either way be sure you install the game WITHIN dosbox and keep the
mounting the same for gameplay.

When you say "Within Dosbox" do you mean that it has to be installed by using dosbox? Or to somewhere in the dosbox directory? I installed using dosbox.

E: is the name of the Virtual CD drive that daemon tools creates.

Where is your CD located? in e: (regardless whether it is a virtual drive or the actual CD-Rom drive)? Then mount as wd suggested and install the game again.
If you have the warez/abandonware version, forget it. First we don'T support abandonware here and second, apart from the legal issues, warez/abandonware is often severly crippled and AFAIK this is the case with the Crusader games.

I've got the game running beautifully now, thank you very much for your help, I think that I indeed didn't install it properly. Cheers!
