I got this laptop at a thrift store for about 6 dollars (Canadian). Aside from a few broken keys, it works pretty well!
Its original OS was Windows 98, but it had XP when I got it, so I did a fresh install of Win98. I got the display drivers to work just fine, but I've been struggling to get it to play audio. Sound was working in XP, so the speakers or sound card can't be broken.
Here are some links to drivers that I tried:
https://archive.org/details/evo-n600c-restore (Says it's for 98)
https://www.philscomputerlab.com/ess-es1988-allegro-1.html (Says it's for 9x)
https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Sear … x?q=ESS+allegro (Only says it supports 2000 or XP)
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/swdetail … SG_I11057-32198 (Only says it supports XP)
If anyone has managed to get sound to work in 98 on this model (or at least a similar one), can you please tell me how?
If you need more information, feel free to ask questions.
EDIT: Just noticed that there is a category specifically for sound. Sorry for posting this under "General Old Hardware". Is it possible for an admin to maybe move this to "Sound"?
