Picked up a 14" CRT TV of some random brand for some retro console gaming (and maybe Amiga).

It's late, 2001, no burn in and not too much use. It works, geometry and colour is fine, but it's very noisy (not only normal 15khz). It even has a built in dvd player, but it does not operate. It has SCART though.

So I've been reading up a lot lately (and safety). Seems like the yoke vibrates and sometimes also around the flyback. Was poking a bit on the yoke with a wooden tool and it changes tone a bit, so I loosened it and reseated it but it is still there, maybe I can solve it with some lacquer.

Also looked at the dvd player, seems to be getting power, and buttons work electrically. Then I found some shorts so I think it's something electrical. I don't really care too much. Found a dvd of You Got Served in it! :-p

Took delivery of a second Advantech AIMB-742 motherboard. This one is in better shape the previous one (cleaner and no bulging caps), but does appear to be missing an inductor on the underside of the board.

Also received a pair of Pentium 4 661 processors. I'm hoping these will have an extra multiplier step versus the 651 which might be useful when throttled.

Where I live water is quite harsh as well, so I always soak/rinse the items in distilled water after being in the dishwasher and finish off with spraying large amounts of IPA over the items to displace any water left under components. Then let it dry for 48 hours or so.

I wouldn't ever put them in the dishwasher because it would most certainly dissolve any paper labels or loosen\damage other stickers, but I have washed several cards in the sink carefully (making sure not to get water on any paper or ink markings) with some mild soap and a toothbrush. They come amazingly clean most of the time and as long as you blow them out to get all the moisture out from under chips and such, and let them dry for a long time they will be fine.

I popped in today to get a power adapter for a P4 laptop that I picked up awhile back and ended up getting these as well:

Very nice lot of cards! I actually have one of those Gainward Geforce3 Ti 200 cards. I always liked the Golden Sample line. My brother had a Geforce 2 Ti Golden Sample and later got a Ti 4400, which I actually still have.

The Guillemot card is definitely a Geforce 256 DDR. The sticker on it confirms it is an unnumbered Geforce with DDR, and this picture is almost identical since it is an OEM design. 😀

I really wish I lived near a place like that!

People usually forget that most dishwashers have a built-in water softener system that works with sodium chloride/table salt. Even if you don't put a tab in the machine it's still going to wash with hot salt water and that doesn't mix too well with metals and electronics and it will leave a nasty residue on everything.

I understand why AGP versions of 6800-series cards cost quite a lot, but can someone explain to me why the PCIe 6800 cards sell for $50+ on ebay? 7800-series PCIe GPUs are cheap, but for some reason 6800-series PCIe GPUs are not, and I don't understand why.

7000 series cards mostly work till you get to the models that the drivers dont officially support under 9x but they too can be made to work with an inf edit, there is only one model that wont work under 98 and thats the GX2 due to SLI.

The 7900GTX is the last unofficially support model and the 7950GT AGP is the last official model.

That said .. you will have a ton of compatibility issues due to drivers mostly and thats the actual reason the 6000 series cards still sell for larger amounts of money, compatibility with both drivers and hardware.
