Can someone help me identify this board/card I bought today on flea market, I think its some sort of upgrade - overdrive or maybe some proprietary card.
Thanks!
At first glance I was puzzled... I was trying to figure out why a PCI card would exist with a 486sx on it and very little else, but now I see that is actually a Microchannel (MCA) card. That interface is mostly found in IBM PS/2 systems.
In PS/2 systems the CPU is usually (Or always? I don't have much experience with them and I only own one.) on a separate card, but it doesn't go into a standard MCA slot like this and I can't find any pictures of such a card online. The processor card in a PS/2 is usually much larger and has a huge connector 3 times as long as the one on this card.
There may be a better place to find a dedicated PS/2 or Microchannel crowd, but it would be worth asking over at vcfed in the 386\486 forum.
Anyway, neat find! If you do find out what it is, reply to this post and let me know. I am curious. 😀
EDIT: Also, in the unlikely event that you have a Microchannel system laying around, I wouldn't go jamming this in there. Who knows what is up with the wires run on the back, and it always feels extra sketchy to insert an unknown card with no slot bracket... I am only about 75% certain of the card's orientation because it just isn't something I'm real familiar with.
Now for some blitting from the back buffer.
