Hey everyone,

Quick question, I bought myself a Asus CUV4X-D motherboard that supports Dual Socket 370 CPU's.
I see it has an AUX power connector on the motherboard.

My question is, do I need to use this AUX power connector? Or can I use a decent ATX power supply that has some decent I amp 5v rails etc?

Manual of motherboard.

Cheers!

AUX is optional, at least I was able to run my CUV4X-DLS fine without it.

The AUX connector is optional in most system setups.
If you have many power hungry PCI cards and or a lot of demand on the 3.3 and 5v rails from within the board itself then you might need it.

I have a dual CPU system that has a similar power arrangement, and that doesnt need the Aux power connected until I add the PCI cards.

NEED?

no.

Is it a good idea?

YES.

high speed P3 chips with a full loadout of agp and pci cards is likely to put a lot of strain on the 20-pin connector.

I'm surprised nobody is making a 24pin > 20 pin + aux adapter. (that I know of)

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Thanks everyone for the advice, from what I understand it's generally a good idea to use it. Otherwise try my luck if I don't have such a PSU with that connector.

Funny, I've always figured that the 4 extra pins in the ATX connector were extra 12V 🤣 Your post made me double check.

Yeah, it's almost too obvious an option it seems, especially since on some ATX connectors, it's already divided in two , thus only requiring it to be 4 pin to AUX

If it's dual it's kind of cool ... 😎

Well the motherboard lives! One of the CPU coolers had been managed (snapped mounting hardware)
