Bought a release boxed version of Full Throttle and an other rerelase of Sam and Max hits the road in a crappy dvd cover. I never played them to the end before.

Seemed topical for sure! 😁
This morning, I had the opportunity to pick up all these for less than $10...

Shooty, Golfy and Drivey... gotta look up that GT Legends, hope it's not online only.... there's several more there begging for the XP gamer I don't have built.... I guess golf games are my guilty pleasure now.

Full Throttle was amazing. There was supposed to be a sequel, but it was cancelled. A casualty of the adventure game genre dying off.

This week's haul includes more thrift store finds, plus some freebies I got from a friend.

I feel like adventure games would have had a longer lifespan (as a leading PC gaming genre) if they innovated past inventory puzzles. Those tend to be frustrating after awhile and gamers probably lost their patience for obtuse puzzles once they had more gaming options on PC. There's also the Myst approach, but I think that really restricts the type of environment that the game is set in. For example, Police Quest wouldn't make sense with logic puzzles. It's a shame because I feel like the adventure genre is ideal for exploration, especially if you feel like problem solving instead of action.

The Colonel's Bequest feels ahead of its time in this respect. It was all about exploration and gathering information rather than puzzle solving.

Thanks! I'll have to check that one out. I don't usually play old Sierra adventure games that I didn't play as a kid because I lose interest whenever I encounter an unfair inventory puzzle. Glad to hear that isn't the case for this one.

I've yet to try it myself, but as far as I know Blade Runner has zero item puzzles. Supposedly it's all about finding clues and detective work, so perhaps also something you might want to check out especially if you happen to like the original movie.
Also I do wonder how many got burned out from adventure games thanks to Sierra's take on them 😆

I love Blade Runner! I've seen the movies, read "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? ", and even read Alan E. Nourse's "The Bladerunner" book (very underrated BTW). Surprisingly, I never played the adventure game yet.
I'm with you on Sierra. Making games that were a bit unfair to make extra money from a phone hint line may have been shortsighted. Now there are walkthroughs, but using one is less fun and I don't have to discipline not to peek. While I'm nostalgic for old Sierra games because those were the adventure games I played as a kid, I'm finding that I'm playing LucasArts games more these days.

Full Throttle is the one LucasArts adventure game that I thought was really poor. The Dig, which came out in the same year, was a million times better. Full Throttle had good writing and was a fun cinematic experience but calling it a 'game' is a stretch.

Have you ever played Cruise for a Corpse by Delphine? Quite possibly the best adventure game I ever played.

Blade Runner is definitely a hugely underappreciated game. It had not only a branching storyline not only depending on your choices, but also on random events that completely changed the ending. It really begs to be replayed, and I love it.

Blade Runner is a great game, one of my favorites from the adventure genre. And you don't need to be some huge fan of the movie to appreciate it.
Be vary that it's a bit speed sensitive. A few sections cannot be completed correctly on machines faster than a Pentium MMX 233 or something like that. I think only one of them is plot critical though. To be clear, I'm talking about the retail CD version. I never played the enhanced edition, though I do have that on GOG.

Thanks for the warning, shouldn't be a concern though since I use ScummVM with supported games.
Sounds like a game I ought to try myself too sooner rather than later. Not sure why I've been shrugging it off for years now, I even like the movie.
Not today, but got the jewel case edition of Simon the Sorcerer Double Pack:
It mentions DOS in the system requirements, so I thought it might contain the original DOS versions, like the original release.
Well, no - it does not. A bit disappointed.

Yes indeed. In fact it's your picture, shared earlier in this thread, that is the best known picture of the big box release at this day and age. 😄

Ah yes, Delphine Software, I had to go look what happened to them, bought and bankrupted 🙁 .... but maybe it was these guys who took up their legacy (and programmers? ) they're putting an adventure game out every few years...
