Pushed and pulled both sides of the bracket, moved the sink back and forth... it just won't release.
How would one remove it?

You could remove the fan first, just to check if there's a mechanism under it.
Can you wiggle it a bit or is it really stuck? Maybe someone used adhesive instead of paste.
If the heatsink is moving, push the black retention clip down at one end, and careful lever it back with a flathead screwdriver.

Whatever you do, don’t tilt it. It might damage the processor die (core).

Thank you. It's really loose and moves around easily, but the bracket won't release. I will try the screwdriver method.

Dental floss between the heatsink and the processor is a better idea than prying with a screwdriver.
Is the hold down bracket still clipped over the socket lugs?
