Hello, I've been meaning to post for a while I have questions some forum users here are going to be better equipped to answer I think.

What I've got here is a PS1 shell that I've cut up.

If you're curious about the ethics of cutting up old stuff, just be aware the optical drive is missing the little metal legs that hold the disc on top and that when I opened it a little red rubber gasket and one solitary ball bearing jumped out. You could fix it if you were really committed, but I've just taped it in position so when the lid is open everything looks normal.

I've got the Atomic Pi mounted in there. It will sit with the heatsink upsidedown and underneath. It's going to have little wood-block leg extensions to stop it from touching the desk.

What strikes me as bizarre and can't really be seen in the photo I've taken is that there are two screw holes inside a PS1 shell that are 60.5mm apart that match two of the ground holes on the Atomic Pi. It did not make it "drop right in" at all mind you. Frankly I would recommend to use other hardware with no external cutting required, but it determined where I was going to try to put what I had.

All this is just a lead up to my questions:

1. I have mounted a Dreamcast 20 mil fan to the heatsink of the Atomic Pi that was spare after a noctua mod. Larger ones won't fit at a flush level to the heatsink. If I were to attempt it again I'd just try to mount a noctua somewhere in the PS1 shell but anyway. I want to put an inline resistor to quieten it. Will 6.8 ohm do?

Then I want to solder it to the pads on the Atom. But it says in the user guide: "CN17 is a 4 pin connector that's not stuffed, marked 'FAN'. FET switches for it are also not stuffed. See schematic page 33."

Do I need those FET switches then? What should I do about using the unpopulated fan header? I don't have much mobo PCB knowledge.

Secondly I want to ask about installing an OS. I was going to install Fluxuan onto a USB to NVMe card, it's a messed with Devuan which is a messed with Debian yada yada... But this device only has one USB port. I have the live cd on a bootable USB, and the empty NVMe and a USB hub if I require it. But I don't know what the best or easiest way to get an OS onto there is.

I'm guessing the live CD doesn't load into memory *everything* so I can then just hot swap the USB device for the install. I could put a USB hub in there, but I want to take it back out after the install.

Sorry if I'm stupid and this is obvious but I wanted to ask first.

Oh I should mention as well there are extra BIOS features locked off on this Atom that can be accessed through Windows Safe Mode/Reboot to BIOS. Someone has made a modded BIOS to make them available under ordinary circumstances so I could just use Fluxuan and still have them etc.

I'd like it if the Vogons archive could preserve the Atomic Pi BIOS for the use of other projects like this one.

That's all of it. Thanks for everything been a fan of Vogins for a long time.
