I'm installing XP on an old laptop (2009 HP DV5-1170el), and I'm getting doubts about Intel drivers:

1) The laptop has a SATA ICH9M-E/M controller, so when I install XP I have to insert this floppy https://archive.org/details/f6flpy3286
But the drivers on the floppy are from late 2008! So I downloaded a dirver package version 9.4.4.1006 which seems to me to be the only one for XP, but the files in the floppy are not contained inside. Not even TXTSETUP.OEM

2) What is the difference between the MATRIX drivers and the INTEL INF UTILITY setup?

3) Once XP is installed, what package should I put in to get the latest intel drivers? Both generic drivers (usb controller type) and sata controller drivers.

1) You should use 11.2.0.1006 for ICH9. TXTSETUP.OEM was available on the "F6 Floppy" package that Intel offered at that time, but the issue is that they omitted many Device IDs, so it often doesn't work. Do the following:

  • obtain the driver here
  • open the INF and find your device ID for your particular AHCI controller. You will need to select the correct one during the F6 portion of the setup
  • create the floppy yourself (just make sure TXTSETUP.OEM is present, as you are aware

2) Matrix IIRC is a SCSI miniport. The native AHCI driver is preferable to it.
