Just posting my findings on file sharing with modern OS.
With Win10/Win11, you need to install the (by default) missing SMB 1 protocol from Windows Optional Features. Once done, Win11 will be able to see and access shares made in WfW's File Manager. I tried it on two machines. But on one of them, Win11 wasn't able to write files into the WfW share. It was strange, as it was able to read and delete existing files, but copying in new files results in a dialog "Operation not supported".
On the other machine I had Win10, and it was able to fully access the share after SMB1 is enabled. Moreover, I shared a folder from Win10 and WfW File Manager was able to map it and fully access it too.. However, I disabled password-protected sharing in Win10 to make WfW happy.. not something I'd recommend. If there are ways to make only a specific folder be shared without a password, let me know. I tried giving Everyone full read/write but that still caused WfW to show the Enter Password dialog which can never succeed due to old authentication. Only when I go to Network Sharing Center and disable password protection would WfW become happy.
I know other solutions exist (FTP, Samba, etc), but I like to have directory shares between OSes like this.
Next challenge, have Android be able to access the WfW share. I use Cx File Explorer, which has decent network access capabilities, and I use it to access shares on modern OSes. It claims to support SMB1, but it just fails to connect to the WfW PC. Any attempts in this direction? Or anyone knows if I can have Android be the host of a share that WfW can access?
Thanks!
