Very nice!

When do we get to know if we get one of these first cards or have to put the deposit?

I follow the queue , when the cards run out the message will switch to the "preorder" one
it all depends on where in the queue one is and how many will go on with the purchase

How much time does one have to decide to go on with the purchase before one is skipped ?

Right to repair is fundamental. You own it, you're allowed to fix it.

well if I get no reply at all in 48hrs I normally move to the next person
but ofcourse one can say "I will tell you in 4 days" and I will wait - I just ask that in 4 days I get an answer , negative or positive it is no prob as long as there is an answer 😉

I am considering getting one for my Pentium 233 MMX computer.
It has an Intel Shuttle 569A motherboard.
It supports plug-n-play.
I heard you need a motherboard that supports plug-n-play in order to get full functions of this sound card.
Does anyone know of any problems in using this motherboard with this sound card ?

Also,
Why the PCB color change?
There was a green PCB, Blue PCB and now RED ?…..What is the difference or is this just a batch color identifier ?

PnP is not requirement to use the Orpheus2 , orphinit and the official crystal/gravis drivers will all work with pnp or classic systems
colors are just colors, used for special occasions - like this red one now that is used for the final batch of cards

So I inputed the form at the beginning of the month when the last batch was announced for the Orpheus ii. (I might have accidentally put it in twice because I realized I wanted a wave table card addition). Will the LT cards be cannibalized to fulfill these orders? The page said both of the Orpheus ii cards will move to retired once these orders are fulfilled. I was curious since it says the LT models are available now and while the gravis would be nice. An LT model is realistically all I need.

We have them both. Nothing is being cannibalized. All is brand new or NOS.
You can ask for any of those cards.

Since you were one of the first to mention trying this, it also made it clear that there was a small ORPHINIT bug affecting PC speaker output (thanks for the feedback!). In some cases, you may get PC speaker output out of the right speaker only, and, in other cases, (almost) nothing at all. This has already been corrected for the next release, but due to a minor injury (and other factors), development has slowed, and said release will be later than originally expected.

Was a new(er) version of ORPHINIT with the PC Speaker fixes ever released? I just wired mine up and am only getting PC speaker sound out of one speaker.

Thanks!

v0.58b has this bug fixed - can be downloaded on the o2 site: https://pcmidi.eu/orpheus2.html

After getting everything replugged and set back up, I feel the overall volume is lower. Is there any way / reason that plugging in the PC Speaker cable would lower the volume for of the card (line-in, pcm, fm, etc)?

When I first plugged it in, I did not hear any PC speaker audio, so I flipped the cable, and then I could hear it. So I am reasonably sure the cable is not backwards atm.

The volume is tolerable, but if something is wrong that is making it quiet, I'd like to fix it. 😀

no, plugging in any input does not make alterations to volume - it cannot happen
perhaps you tried different games/apps - many games are known to just max out the mixer so if you tried something else it will sound lower volume and give the impression a recent change caused this

Ok, I'll just assume it is my perception then. (and/or my external mixer, speakers, etc)

Thank you!

The preorder emails will be sent in the next couple days, until now we were busy soldering/shipping cards 😀

I'm sure this is a stupid question, but I would appreciate a sanity check. I'm pretty sure I've got everything set up correctly in Win98. I won't know if the ultrasound is working in games until I get the RAM stick, but I can get it to play canyon.mid in WMP by selecting it as the MIDI device in Multimedia settings.

How do I get the sound blaster part to use the OPL instead of the crystal in DOS games within Windows? In DOS you can edit the orphinit config file to pick between the crystal and the OPL. I'm pretty sure it's defaulting to the crystal FM when you use P220 I5 D1 because the torpedoes sound wrong in the floppy Trek 25th Anniversary (supposed to sound like a smooth hiss). The OPL is at port 388 in the device manager, if the game doesn't let you chose that port in setup can you not use the OPL in Windows?

Am I over/under thinking this?

Also I would appreciate a link explaining like I'm 5 how to set up config.sys/autoexec.bat for Win98 MS-DOS Mode for games. I've got my head around it for pure DOS, but I've never had to do it in Win98, and the autoexec.bat file I have only has 3 lines from sound card driver installations and the config.sys file is just a blank file.

GUS PnP can work under windows as a midi synth without any ram installed - because there is an onboard 1mb rom and it is used as a sound bank. Once ram is installed you can use the gravis control panel to load different banks and experiment with.
Under windows midi properties you get to chose whether windows will use the Yamaha or the Crystal OPL - with dos-games-in-win9x you will always get the yamaha opl if the game access it at port $388 - if a game wants to access the opl using the SB port then the crystal driver (that we cannot alter) will just use the crystal opl. There is no workaround for this other than running the offending game under pure DOS.
There is no need for any dos-drivers-under-win9x : all you need is the SET BLASTER variable and perhaps CWDMIX to adjust volumes in a dos-window if needed. Please do not run orphinit under a windows environment.
