Is there any advantage to having a larger/er screen, ok in modern terms, lcd or led, situated further away, over a smaller screen that's situated much closer?

In the 80s studies showed a larger screen cut down on eye strain/fatigue and therefore it was in the interests of productivity for companies to buy big ones. Not that many caught on.

What if situate a 10-13" lcd say 12" or so from your face. Is this still a situation that is less advantageous then a much larger screen (20"+) 20-28" away? Don't hold me to those exact numbers.

With age you'll come to appreciate the size and distance.
Unless you have myopia 😀

It's about font size, not screen size. Also sharpness of the text. CRTs had problems with sharpness, while LCDs don't.

The font can always be enlarged no matter what you're using.

As far as age, my eyesight used to be extremely sharp, nowhere near as much. I often have to bring stuff closer, or to that optimal distance nearby, in order to see. So I don't know.
