Has anyone replaced the heatsink and fan on the Kyro II? I have a Hercules Prophet Kyro II 64MB that has a very noisy fan that I would like to replace. I also have a GeForce 2 GTS that has the same problem and could use the same treatment.

I could probably just take the fan out and put a Noctua fan on top of the original heatsink but it would be a botch job and look bad and also take up an additional pci slot that I want to use. So the best solution would be to replace the heatsink with something that would fit a new fan directly and not take up another card slot.

Has anyone done this or know of a heatsink that could work for this?

What I'm looking for is something similar to this but that can fit a regular 40 mm fan (like a Noctua NF-A4x10) instead of the ones already integrated in the heatsink which most likely is to loud for my taste.

If you search "pi heatsink" on amazon or other large marketplace, you'll see a few things you can adapt or steal the fan out of.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

I suppose you could use a super low profile copper heat sink like: https://www.ebay.com/itm/115614473823
However airflow through such a heat sink would be heavily restricted.

Having a low profile heat sink almost necessitates using an open frame fan to have any airflow out of the underside.
Noctua doesn't make open frame fans, so you are going to be limited to other brands.
I have been using ADDA AP0505MX-J90-4P for low profile fan and heat sink replacements. So far these have been reasonably quiet for their fan size.

If I understand the request correctly it's about fans that are 40mm but also they aren't because they kind of sitting in a heatsink recess making them more like 35mm
This? Re: What retro activity did you get up to today?

Thank you! This is also a good suggestion that I will look at.

I dont mind using a 40mm fan, I really do like the Noctua fans but it is hard to find a heatsink that would let me mount these in a good way that doesnt look botch or take up to much space.

The dream would be something like in my picture that could mount a normal fan ontop with screws into the heatsink and then with the normal click thing onto the PCB which I assume is 55 mm apart (not able to measure now).

If the card in question does have mounting holes for pistons then you are spoiled for choice in aftermarket products (Zalman, Titan etc)
The difficult way I was referring to is for when the heatsink is epoxied to the chip.
