Hi I have a Toshiba 500CDT (pentium 120mhz) with no hdd caddy, but i use the cd-rom caddy for hdd and put the hdd in selectbay and i modified the cdrom caddy. But i think the bios dont see it. I heard the hdd. Its a working 80gb ide hdd with ontrack manager overlay for booting that i made with another laptop.
I read in the 500CDT maintenance manual that you can use a hdd in selectbay for a 2nd hdd.
But can the Toshiba 500CDT detect a hdd in selectbay without having a hdd in original hdd slot ?
If yes i suppose my modification dont work. i broke the metal side of the 2.5 hdd and connect the 50 pin adapter to the 44 pins of the 2.5 hdd. i just tried to ignore the cdrom audio pins.
I suppose the cdrom and hdd pinout are the same, is it right ? except for 2 row of audio pins for cd-rom that i dont use on the hdd, i still have 44 pins connected.
( i dont think i should change the hdd jumper, i let it with no jumper for master device 0, but could i have to put a jumper on the hdd to put it in slave or cableselect ? i dont think so, but i really try to get this hdd work in cd-rom caddy, without using a hdd in the original hdd slot )
I dont mind sacrifice my cd-rom to get the hdd working.
Thanks for help and answer
edit: i tested a little more. I see in the bios that no hdd are detected. But when the computer try to boot, i heard the hdd spin and even the hdd light on the laptop have his light blinking. So i think the hdd is reading. Maybe my hdd system files for booting are not correct. they boot another vintage 486 laptop when i made it with ontrack manager overlay, but i think sometime when i change to another laptop that doesnt work. I will check the boot files in a few hours. But if you have any ideas let me know.
