I've been debating building a monitor stand to house some rack mount audio hardware. Main reason is for a 16 channel (8x stereo) mixer, but it would also likely have space for an addition piece of gear. I was thinking the possibly of including something like an EQ or FX unit.

I'm curious if anyone else has build an audio rack setup for use with retro PC setups, and what sort of rack-mount gear people use with it.

My insane dream would be to have a rack of 16 Roland MKS-900s. (One for each MIDI channel.) But for the time being I have just one, and it's a wonderful box though prices on them now are just stupid.

Amazing setup Cloud!!! A few details caught my attention:

- The NEC and Dell CRTs are something to die for;
- I see at least 6 MT-32's, i imagine an assortment of Old and New models with different ROMs / mods?
- The assortment of CM modules neatly organized in the lower shelf;
- You have the Microprose adventure game trifecta in boxes!!
- (I assume) you love (like i do) Microprose; (they are the dual-OPL2 masters afterall) (You need a boxed copy of Fleet Defender my fave Microprose game! 😀 )
- The assortment of GM gear, namely the essential Yamaha and Roland modules (XG rulesssssss);
- A beautiful Apple II setup;
- Is that a Tandy RLX?
- The MIDI General has a Roland/Edirol SC8850 on top?
- The Roland MIDI pedalboard with 2 expression pedals is neat, which model is it?

Final thought, i wanna pack my stuff travel to your place ,nerd out at that room, set up my guitar, and have a jam session! 😀

EDIT: got so mesmerized with Cloudschatze's setup that i even replied to the OP. I just use a Behringher 1202 mixer for my main DOS PC. No EQ no FX.

Half-rack Boss VF-1 on the effects bus of the main mixer. Haven't done much of anything with it in a while though.

Bloody hell, that's a *nice* setup. I knew you had some nice gear from glimpses in other photos, but these wide shots really tell the whole story. 😲

Half-rack units are an interesting idea. I suppose then it would be possible to include 2 half-rack units, plus the mixer. I'll have to give that some consideration.

I'd somehow never even seen the MKS-900 before. Didn't know something like that even existed. 16 of them running in tandem would be kinda nuts, but cool. 😁
