Greetings!

Short version:

Looking for a cracked Galaxy 3.0 word processor or some way to purchase a new license.

Longer version:

My old man used to get me to type all of his reports for his small business through out my teen years. It was one of my jobs. He purchased a version of Galaxy back in the late 80's or 90's and we used it heavily. Many many hundreds of hours in front of the thing over about a decade. Lately I've been using shareware Galaxy again and enjoying it on my XT. I'd love to either do the right thing and buy a copy or if that's not possible get a cracked version. I'm enjoying my manuals and Lotus-1-2-3 4.0 again also. 😀

I "think" the full version of Galaxy allows for larger documents via EMS memory. The shareware one we used for a while used to crap out at about 40-50 pages. You'd save, there'd be no error message but the file was truncated at about 64kb (about 1 segment). My XT has 2mb EMS card which is pretty nifty.

Advice? I really have a pretty huge affection for this thing given the number of years of my life spent with it.

Thanks.
Al.

i really think it's going to be difficult to track it down now, i had to look it up.

you'd need to find someone who bought it or check collections & cover disks in case it was ever freely released as full version

This archive has not only version 2.4 but also 3.01. It's still only the shareware version, but it might take care of that truncated files issue (haven't checked).

Heads up, if you decide to stick with the shareware release then you might run into a bug where if you run it ~32k (INT16_MAX) times then the eval counter will wrap around and cause the program to hang on shutdown. Delete the .ini to start fresh.

Greetings!

I gave up trying to email people that are relatives of the author. After a lot of searching it appears that he passed away sometime about a decade ago with noone to pickup the work. Family hasn't responded to several emails. It's all been radio silence.

So. I managed to stumble across a commercial version of Galaxy 3.01 still shrink wrapped and purchased it for a bit too much. The manuals are rather lovely. I've managed to get the disks imaged so they read now and I've made fresh disks, then dd'd them to actual floppies and installed it on my XT of awesomeness and am re-living my past typing stuff for dad I guess when I was a kid.

Wherever I looked online, there was the crippled and shareware version.

So.. I'm soliciting advice. Should I put it online given everywhere only seems to have the shareware version from about 1988 or 1990?

I don't want to do the wrong thing, but do get that this thing is extremely scarce (10+ years of searching for it).

Thanks in advance.

Works not meeting these criteria must not be submitted to VOGONS. In particular, “abandonware” is not allowed on VOGONS. Donate commercially unavailable copyrighted works of historical interest to the Internet Archive or to a local library or museum.

If you do don't post links to it here or hint on how to acquire it.

So am I reading this right, simply stating "I have followed the rules and donated [the work] to the Internet Archive" would not be allowed? Gotta love these forums.

Hi Gerry.. indeed this guy was very special to me though a younger me would probably say good riddance for all the hours I was in front of it.

Indeed. I really don't want to do the wrong thing by the site. So yep. I dearly wish there was some sort of copy-write expiry or such... or better a register people could say "after this date, I release the copy-write for people to do as they will" which would be handy if they die etc. Sort of a living will for software, or even "you can still get a copy but please donate to XYZ charity etc.." That'd be great 😀
