Have any of you ever combined a PCI to PCI Express adapter with a modern low profile PCIe SATA controller for an old DOS/Win9x computer with a Motherboard with only PCI and ISA slots?

The modern controllers would support TRIM and ATA/ATAPI Command Set version 2 (short name: ACS-2) or later, which is a requirement for TRIM. You could easily connect an SSD to them and use TRIM. But the question is whether this works at all and what about driver support for DOS and Win9x/Me? Are there such PCIe SATA controller cards with DOS and Win9x/Me support with ACS-2 support (controller chip produced 2008 or later)? After all, it has already happened that modern PCs were delivered with a version of FreeDOS because in some countries it is mandatory that a computer may only be sold with the operating system installed.

TRIM isnt an issue with recent SSD drives.

1. most (but not all) will do it auto-magically themselves
2. the drives are so damn cheap, you will pay more for the converters than buying one or two small SSD drives.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.
