Hello,

I have a number of games that play MIDI games (custom GZDoom build, eduke32, Sonic & Knuckles 3) and I wanted to use a Roland SC-88 Pro with them. Sonic is the first one I tried and I'm not exactly sure if I'm doing everything correctly.

- the soundcard, SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS, is equipped with the gameport bracket
- I have a MIDI cable that is confirmed to work with my FreeDOS build
- Windows is instructed to use Synth A as its MIDI device
- Sonic is instructed to output the music in General MIDI
- nothing can be heard, the bars on the Roland ain't even moving
- I tried to change the device to Synth B and MIDI IO, but it doesn't work

What am I doing wrong?

Are you sure the MIDI in and out cables are connected the right way around ? It is easy to swap them around by accident...

From what I recall with Sound Blaster PCI cards like the Live and X-Fi, "Synth A" and "Synth B" referring to the card's hardware MIDI synthesizers and their Soundfonts. I would guess that MIDI I/O is the MIDI device that you want to use to interface with your SC-88 Pro, so I would suggest that any further troubleshooting you do be with that as the MIDI device. My next suggestion would be to try opening a MIDI file with something like Windows Media Player and see if it gives any MIDI output to your SC-88?
