I picked up this lovely boxed Athlon X2 at the thrift store today. It's clearly been used, but it takes a special person to remove the thermal paste and put it back in its box before donating it to a thrift store. Heck it takes a special person just to keep the original dang box in the first place!

This isn't the first time I've come across a boxed CPU at this store. A few years ago I saw an i7, I think it was an 870 or 970. First-gen and not worth the $50 they were asking for, even back in 2021.

Very awesome 👍😎 great find!

Thanks man!

I'm just giving the CPU a test run on my Gigabyte NF3 motherboard. This board doesn't have the best power delivery, but it should be more than adequate for this fair to middling overclocker; it can do 2.5 GHz at stock voltage, and a gentle nudge to 1.5v nets just over 2.6 GHz. At least the memory controller appears to be in decent shape, easily pushing DDR-500. I believe the MC is usually the first thing to go on these chips (as is the case with most people too, amirite?) so that is indeed quite nice to see!

A friend of mine, really likes the old Cardinal hardware, so i grabbed this video card off ebay. It went for an okay price. I also got this wild hair up my ass and took pictures with my Sony Mavica FD83. (its one of those Floppy disk digital cameras.

A4olTrR.jpg

The pics came out really nice, imho: https://imgur.com/a/AfBbWXO I got 5 images per floppy disk. There was something a bit novel and pleasing about it.

And then I pulled out my cell phone for some 'comparison'. https://imgur.com/a/3wRsPTt

Sadly, the card itself isnt much to look at. I will image the floppy disks and the manual and put it up on the Retro Web, here this week.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Nice video card. 1mb is all you need to run most DOS games.
I purchased one of those Sony Mavic cameras with floppy disk used a couple of years ago.
I don’t remember if I ever try it. But I still have it.

Should put that in quotes to go with the 640k is all you will ever need one.

The more you have the more shit you have to fill it is how it goes and how it always was.

Better luck than me, at similar prices I have had two CPU boxes from thrift, one C2Quad... had a slow C2D in it, and another a Phenom II X4, had a slow Phenom 1 X3 in it.

I just got this neat boxed CH Flightstick Pro with manual and the disks. It isn't NIB, but in really good condition and just wiped some dust off, plugged it in and it works beatifully.

Heretic is IMO a bit weird choice as bundled demo game, I would've expected something more... simmish 🤣

Yeah I've seen some "whack" bundles over the years, not too clear on specifics now, but definitely seen software rendered and 2D games bundled with 3D Accelerators, then I think the only relevant thing that came with a Wingman I bought years back was a disk for Compuserve Air Warrior, but that was "free" on all magazines anyway as a subscription and pay to play thing. Forgot what the others were but not ideal stuff for a flightstick, more gamepad things.

Yeah. I think in this case the game was kind of hot at the time and giving the shareware version bundled with the stick was pretty much free except the cost of the floppy disks.

Bought a Toshiba Satellite laptop with a 1.8ghz P4M, 2x512mb of DDR 333mhz, and a GeForce 4 Go 420 16mb - the HDD + charger. Looks to be in Phenomenal condition! Any recommendations for a SSD? I'm planning on buying 2x1gb sticks of ram for it when I buy a charger and storage.

Main pc: Asus ROG 17. R9 5900HX, RTX 3070m, 16gb ddr4 3200, 1tb NVME.
Retro PC: Soyo P4S Dragon, 3gb ddr 266, 120gb Maxtor, Geforce Fx 5950 Ultra, SB Live! 5.1

Picked up a couple of Geforce 256 32MB SDR cards for 37$ Each delivered. Feels like a decent price to me. Will report back later if they actually work on arrival 🤣 😁

I found two of these on different occasions at two different thrift stores. Not new, no box, but great condition. Exciting for me as I never had a PC joystick.

Bought this rare 386 board: Texas Instruments TMB386D33B64, produced in May 1992. Not listed in TRW yet.
Unfortunately battery was leak, now removed by previous owner. This would be a good repair project.

Damage looks mostly superficial.
Might be lucky. Vinegar soak, rinse, might simply work.

I built:
Mechwarrior 2 installer
Re: A comprehensive guide to install and play MechWarrior 2 on new versions on Windows.
Dos+Windows 3.11 auto-install iso template (for vmware)
Script to backup Win9x\ME drivers from a working install
Re: The thing no one asked for: KICAD 440bx reference schematic

Should be simple so long as none of it has managed to eat under that ISA slot.

Ive seen damage that looks less than this that had managed to damage traces running under the first ISA slot, require removing that slot to repair the damage since all ISA slots run off that first one.
