Still can't believe even these are hard to find now. 7-10 years ago when I used to browse the bay, these were at rock-bottom scrap prices working or otherwise, particularly the PCI-E versions... because, who'd want a top-end early PCI-E card? 😁 And a little before that, AGP cards like the Radeon 9700/9800 were in similar waters. Can't tell you how many R300 GPU's I've passed that were going for no more than $5-10 (and sometimes barely even making it over $1).
How times change.

I'm willing to bet that it does work. Seems that ATI kind of started learning their lesson from the # of dead 9700/9800 GPUs. So for the x850 cards, the "dust blower" fan and heatsink assy. they used was much more inline with the TDP of the card.

Maybe it's an indication that these cards are prone to dying. Like the 9700 pro, they were super popular but most have failed due to the heatsink lifting itself away from the die. 🙁

It would be a three hour or so round trip (gas $$$) so I won't do it, but a guy has a sealed box NOS Iwill KK266 for sale for $50.00. I don't need it, but it's just so cool looking! Oops further temptation - it has an ISA slot.

mmmmm now put it up against a 3200+ and lets see what it can do and if that extra speed makes any difference when matched against a high FSB. Also how much heat are we talking about here ...cant be much hotter than a 3200+ there is only 50Mhz between them.

Makes me want one of these 2800+ chips or one of the OEM 3200+.

At least according to these simple cpu benches, that 50mhz speed difference is noticeable! The 2800+ comes out on top!
However since the Barton 3200+ has double cache, I'm sure there are other times when this CPU loses.

IIRC, because they are "flip chips" the "top" is inert silicon. All the real bits are on the "bottom"

Well, got the 5VMMX flashed, now it's no longer a NMC but ye olde' EPoX, the EP-51MVP3E-M 😁

Paired it with a ELSA branded Banshee and it ran... decent. The standard K6-2/500AFX it came with ran pretty well.

This one evaded me for far too long. If it gets delivered I finally got my hands on the Floor Standing Option for my IBM 5170.

Unfortunately it’s not in a good condition, a little rusty and some of the parts seem to be missing, like the vertical stickers (badge, lock, HDD & power LED).

Of course I’ve payed to much, but anyhow, I’ve been waiting a long time for this and I’m happy …

BTW: Does anyone know the exact Pantone or RAL codes for the 5150 and 5170?

IDK, but if you can get a swatch of the Pantone Cool Greys, try holding a "Cool Grey 2 UP" against it.

Yeah, I read on the internet that Pantone 453 might be one of the possible candidates but it would be nice not to be deceived by my perception and really know. So far I've not been able to find real official documentation.

It's been recapped already - the Sanyo caps originate from a dead GA-6VA mobo, while the three remaining caps are off a long since scrapped Dell SFF PC.

1MB cache from what I can tell (which is probably more than enough.).

I'll now be able to run my EAX games in SLI mode with my 2 Audigy cards...

Caps dry out with boards in long term storage, if it hasn't been powered up in 20 years unless the caps were top notch to start with there is a good chance some of them will need replacing.

Yes that’s true. Speaking of dry caps. I had a few old Sound Blaster 1.5 and 2.0 cards that had been in storage for 30+ years with terrible noise, but after leaving them powered on for a few hours, most of the noise went away. It’s like the caps just needed to be reenergised. Months later they still sound great.

yup, its always a good idea to give boards stored that long a quick going over looking for leaky caps, damage tantalum's or in the case of PSUs Riffa caps.

old RIFFA caps are bad juju and its better to just replace them before powering up, you already have experience with bad tantalum's but they too should be suspect.
