VOGONS

I recently pulled my old Voodoo 2 card out (CT6670 8MB) and tried to get it to work on my Pentium Pro system.

Unfortunately, I get the POST error codes for a video failure and not surprisingly no video output.
If I boot with the Voodoo 2 Card plus a 16-bit ISA card, I get video and at startup it detects a multimedia card on the PCI bus...so at least part of the card appears to be working.

The card looks to be in great shape and I checked two parts labeled FB1 and FB2 that I assume are fuses that are intact. No shorted tantalums that I can find.

I also tried my only other PCI video card (Intergraph Rendition V1000-E) and although it does not get a POST error....I do not get any video either.

Any suggestions for tracking down what the problem might be?

Could it be a BIOS setting issue?
PCI slot issue?
Motherboard is: https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/asus-p … -xp6np5-rev-1-8

The system can boot from a 16-bit ISA VGA card just fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Voodoo 2 is not a standalone VGA card - it would only output video if a 3dfx-capable application (such as a Glide API game) is used.
It does not contain VGA BIOS option ROM and the PCI class isn't set to a video card so it is expected that the system would not pass the POST if you don't have another (2D) card installed.

Ah, apparently, I completely forgot about that! It's been a long time since I used the card. Thanks! I thought the pass through VGA cable was only used in SLI mode.

I'll try that out this evening.

So I guess, the question is now what might be the issue with the other Intergraph PCI card. The fact that it doesn't even beep is extremely odd. Corrupt ROM on the card or maybe it's causing some other system fault?

There are no ROMs on Voodoo 2 cards. They operate only via drivers.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.
