So i finally have my Escom 486 DX2 66Mhz up and running! I'm really happy about this, it's been sitting in my loft waiting for me to give it some attention.

I decided this evening to give Theme Hospital a spin, the game runs, the music is great, however gameplay is a little slow, I was sure I'd had this running on a DX2//66 in the past. I thought I'd pop on and double check A. This game will run on a 486 B. What kind of video card is needed to run it. I have a Trident, but two of the sockets are unpopulated, which i think makes it a 1mb card.

There's an old android saying which I believe is peculiarly appropriate here. In binary language it goes something like this: 001100111011000111100, which roughly translated means: "Don't stand around jabbering when you're in mortal danger!"

CPU matters more for this game than the video card - you can always switch it to low-res mode to double-check. But a DX2 is definitely the bare minimum, DX4 or a Pentium is much more comfortable.

Darn I was certain it would be the video card, doom and duke3d run really well on this. Didn’t think TH would be more demanding than those games.

Well it did come out more than a year after Duke3D. I recall playing it on my Pentium 120 with S3 Trio 64. It worked well in that.

I've just downloaded HWinfo for DOS, going to take a look at the video card. I could take the lid off, but it was a PITA to remove and put back on. So if I can save myself the hassle, more the better. However watching the machine boot up, I could swear it's reporting a total of 1024kb ram when the Trident Bios pops up. 1mb of video memory doesn't sound stellar.

640x480 only requires 300KB, 1MB is more than enough.

HWInfo reports my 66mhz CPU is actually running at 58mhz interesting
