I'll maybe try and set up an automatic build thingie, I think github supports that

I couldn't find any keyboard testing programs for DOS that work on an 8088 and support all the extended scancodes so I wrote a quick one.
It's tested on an IBM 5150 and Amstrad PC1640 (which has some extra weird scancodes), as well as various emulators.
I might spin it off as a new project eventually because it has uses outside hidman.
It needs a bit more work/cleanup but it's good enough for my purposes. I've already found a few bugs in hidman 🤣
link here- https://github.com/rasteri/HIDman/tree/main/mashpipe - you need both mashpipe.exe and keyboard.ans
I am really monitoring hidman because it is something missing for old pcs - I hope in the future for a small serial dongle that will be just like on the ones on amiga world where you just put your usb wireless thingie and you get a nice mouse for the retro system 😀 This is excellent work!
I have used CheckIt on XTs before - it has an input test with XT and AT keyboard layouts so it would serve as a quick test I think - but now seems not needed 😀

Yeah I'm wondering what the best form factor for something like this would be. A serial dongle is a good shout.
Also it would be nice to have hardwired PS/2 cables, but that doesn't scale easily manufacturing-wise

perhaps a small 4pin connector (like the ones used for CD-AUDIO in soundcards) so one can make a ps/2 cable and connect it if it is needed
Looks like I'm building 10x of these next month. Will be putting 7-8 of them up on eBay for sale when we get there.
Out of curiosity, which enclosure case is being used? Call me stupid but I'm not finding it. Any help?
Edit: Nevermind I'm a dumb: https://lincolnbinns.com/shop/aluminium-enclo … case-a-kit.html - E Case A, 40mm length.
Rasteri, I have a KVM setup where my KVM is a USB hub. All of my computers connect to it with a single USB cable. Will the HIDMan walk through the devices in the USB hub?

Yeah should do. If it doesn't let me know!
That’s great. I have been building my own Raspberry Pi version of this device. It worked fine with Windows 98 but Windows 2000 has been very picky about handshaking. My project is starting to come together, but yours looks more thoughtfully engineered and sturdier. I ordered a board to build my own replica HIDMan. Hopefully the mouse handshake protocol is implemented better than mine. I’m also curious if anyone has had success with Windows 2000.

Yeah Windows 2000 has been tested. Admittedly not for a while but the handshaking code hasn't changed.
Certainly 98 and XP have both been tested recently.
I've made a video about HIDman, including a guide on how to order the assembled boards : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44tg6oXGmYI
Great video and really glad to see you are still working on the project!
Thanks so much to @rasteri for creating this. Vintage mice are often quite awful, as I remember well from when they were new.

Got PCBs today. 11x for everything except one of the plates (only 10x of those).
I’ll be getting components soon and the shells and hopefully have some for sale soon.
Rasteri, you did it again. :3

Looks nice in gold!
Does anyone have a source for the Lincoln Binns cases in the USA?
Nachtrave, would you be interested in selling a front/back/main PCB?

You can download the step file and 3d print it, worked well for dubesinhower.
Awesome project - I'm actually in need of a serial mouse, so I want one. Well, I NEED one, I'm not going to buy a ball mouse in 2024.
Question for rasteri: The github PCBs do not match the ones shown in the video - which one is the current version? I'd guess the github is out of sync, as the main PCB still says RevB and NachtRave's order states RevC?
Question to everybody else in mainland EU (preferably Germany): Does someone have a spare PCB that is either already populated or at least comes with the processor for self-assembly? Or are there other folks interested in buying one, so that an order of 5/10 units on PCBWay doesn't sit around forever on my shelf?

Actually, the Lincoln Binns cases aren't coming up for me anymore: https://lincolnbinns.com/shop/aluminium-enclo … case-a-kit.html -- at least that's where they were at one point. Might need to find a new source for them.

Sure, how does 25$ + S/H sound?

Hi, I am really interested in a complete, assembled unit so please let me know when they are on ebay and if possible reserve one for me. Congratulations for the great work.
