Inspire by this discussion
Future nostalgia?

I will propose the following question: The Ramayana, Jane Eyre, Vivaldi’s four seasons and the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band are not RETRO but loved by generation after generation. Please nominate three games which you think will stand the test of time: My choices are:

- Tetris
- Civilization (Test of Time 😉)
- Minecraft

Obviously other people also thought about that so here is some additional reading for inspiration:

Definitely Doom, The fact that this is the game people load on calculators, lawn mowers and pregnancy tests is proof the game is standing the test of time.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 as it's still alive with the OpenRCT2 Project.

I agree with Tetris but as it's already been listed, I'll add Snake for the same reasons. It was big during the 8 bit era, again during the 90's on phones, and can still be found on kids toys.

Civilization 2? Not sure which version has held it's popularity the best
Skyrim - not my favorite but the world has liked it for over 10 years now, and there isn't much competition in this genre to make people forget about it
Dark Souls

Civilization 2? Not sure which version has held it's popularity the best

I dont know either. I tried some later versions but I am actually always comming back to the original. It may not have the polished graphics but the gameplay is just right for me - but will people remember it in 100 or in 1000 years from now - who knows...

Civ1 is my favorite, but I get the impression more people like Civ2.
I like the simpler and quicker style of Civ1, and I think the graphics and sound are more interesting.
The lower resolution and lack of a "standard" Windows feel is probably jarring though for people who don't normally play DOS games.

Civ1 is my favorite...

I would usually restart the game 5 or 10 times for a perfect start and then the inventions, exploration, growth of cities will just accelerate and the whole game will exponentially explode - while all the time our brain is working at 99.9 % capacity to keep track of all the different events...yet at the screen its mostly just coarse pixelated squares (and an ocasional civil war...)
