I'm trying to run 3ds Max v4.2 on Windows 10 but I'm getting an error:

Error: loading cdilla dll !!

The software licensing system was unable to select a license [Error 5]

I've installed CDilla license manager system driver but it doesn't work. Can anyone help me get 3ds Max v4.2 working on Windows 10 without the CDilla driver?

Looks like there's information out there on the web to get it working in XP. Autodesk don't support it, you seem to need activation codes, not clear whether you have a licence anyway, and we don't talk about warez here. 4.2 appears to be regarded as abandonware. Annoying though when you have a legitimate old licence and the company no longer supports the product so you can no longer activate it - especially when it was bought direct and in good faith.

Backwards compatibility isn’t a given with later Windows versions, especially when it comes to areas such as copy protection.

Can you not try an era appropriate OS? I’ve fairly recently installed 3ds max 4.2 on windows 2000, running in a VM using VMWare Workstation on my Windows 10 laptop without any issues.
