Hello everyone,
First post on this very forum, even though I've been lurking around for a while already.

I've been restoring my old 486 which comes with the following:
- Mobo AV8540
- Intel 486DX2 Overdrive DX2ODPR66
- Creative CT4170 SB 16 Vibra PnP
- NIC RTL 8019AS (NE2000)
- Trident TGUI9400CXi VLB
- Goldstar Prime 2C IDE controller - soon to be upgraded with a UMC82C based VLB controller
- MS-DOS 6.22
- WFW 3.11

Everything is working great, except for Hook PC game. When I try running the installer it freezes up the whole PC.

While debugging I've noticed that it seems not to get along with the SB16 drivers - which get loaded by autoexec.bat/config.sys. I've been using the ISO file for DOS/Win 3.1 driers from Vogons SW library. I'm still uncertain of which combination of lines is the exact culrpit, I'm debugging this.

Now, I can't find anyone facing the same very issue on the internet, and I've already checked for IRQ conflicts with hwinfo16. Everything else is working just fine. Any shared experience anyone?

Thanks anyone

Update: seems likely the problem comes with the DEVICE=C:\SB16\CTCM.EXE in CONFIG.SYS.

It's odd that the installer doesn't start its music even when setting the BLASTER variable though...

Update: I've got rid of the Vibra16 card as a side effect of resurrecting my SBPro 2.0 (see Re: Sound Blaster Pro 2.0 CT1600 broken channel). Removed SB16 drivers, installed SBPRO drivers, now Hook simply works 😀
