How do you properly install sb16 drivers on dos under win 98?

On my win 98 rig i have a sound blaster 16 (yeah the same with the pIII of the previous topic) I realized that when i restart it into dos or use a bootdisk, i got no audio from any game, no matter the setting. this despite that autoexec already has a line called SET BLASTER ADD I5 DMA1 etc. in win 98 (for win games) audio works fine, for SOME dos games audio seems fine but usually music, i got no sound in many games and some cannot even find the sound blaster in the setsound.exe, not manually or automatically.

I have the doubt that under DOS no driver is installed at all. how do i install (or set, if it's there already as shown by the line on autoexec) sb16 properly?I remember i had something similar many years ago on another computer, i found my cd drivers and despite the installaton (all under win 98, compelte with stereo "deck" for playong audio files etc) i douvbt it installed anything under DOS.

are there proprietary sb16 dos drivers? I don't remember i had to do this when i had my p75 with win 95 back in 1996

p.s the game i am having issues specifically is syndicate plus the cd rom version. only music works (under win 98) no audio. on dos no music and no audio, no matter the irq settings etc

Ok from the Page you linked i downloaded SB 16 installation disks, put It into my computer and installed It, chose full installation and the rebooted the PC by itself. But Now It has this error when booting

I tried another installer and i get this, but i am in pure dos mode from boot so don't know what the hell It Is complaining about.

Ok Will have a look, After the error any game i try It says "cannot find sound card" on Windows 98 though It works fine with the current settings. I Need to check jumpers on the board itself ?

Here Is a Pic of the board. Don't understand where those jumpers mentioned in the pdf should go, the partyon the left or the Bottom PIN rows? None of them have jumpers

I did the diagnose program under windows, and there are no errors, but i if i run it under DOS i have this error that someother device is using the 220 address, but how do i know which device is doing that under dos?

Hi there, Sound Blaster 16 had many versions and equally many drivers.

The early drivers didn't even contain plug&play utilities yet, since they were made with early models in mind,
such as CT1740 or CT1750 which had jumpers for everything.

Then there were half-plug&play models, too, which had some jumpers.

Long story short, please tell us the version of the SB16.
Then we might be able to recommended the right drivers.

Ok do i Need to check on the board itself ? If yes where exactly ? On the chip ?

It is the CT2950, the label can be seen on the top left of the sound card.

ok thanks, will it work with the unisound drivers or needs something specific?
