Hey everyone! I never properly introduced myself in all this time. I'm Maj.Jackyl from Minnesota, USA and I've been working on computers for about 25 years, though a number of those years had me in the single digits. I want to start a thread to post about what I'm working on daily, since I'm almost always working on something. I like to post lots of pictures, too, because I know I like looking at the goods as well.
A lot of this work is fairly mundane, but having a log will be beneficial. I'll be able to see how some of these computers evolve. I have a large back-log of work I've been doing in the last year I could share, too, but I think I'll start right at the current date and maybe reference the earlier work/process when appropriate. (like now) I'll start this story at the beginning, it's going to be a few posts, so I can share all the pictures.
What I've been working on today has been in the works for quite some time. I received an AWESOME surprise from another member (Hi) and it gave me so much joy. It was a Intel(Gateway)VS440FX with a SL25A installed and 4x16M single sided SIMMS. I also received a video card to use with my PCI only Pentium II system, but have been using it in THIS system for now. It all looks so cool together.
The board when I got it, had a damaged beeper and a ding on the SB82371SB. I started with cleaning the board and straightening the pins, which were shorted. I couldn't find any other issues, so I had my brother (more soldering XP) replace the beeper. The CPU fan harness also needed to be rewired, which was indeed easy and not forgotten.
