I want to make a video on the lost art of game installers, but it's hard to find information on that on the web. (DOS and early Windows games are both okay).

So far I got:
C&C1 und 2
Worms United
Broken Sword
Age of Empires
Call to Power 1
Iron Helix
Nox (westwood)
Underground2
Mig 29
Sims 2

Can you name a few more, preferably with a short explanation what made the installer cool?

Thanks, that would really help me to make a future video about the topic.

- Lands of Lore: Guardians of Destiny (another animated Westwood installer)
- Hexen (plays an intro animation)

Let me think, there are other ones on the tip of my tongue, mostly DOS installers that did something cool by using the sound card early and/or play animations...

What does it means C&C 1 & 2?

I mean, Command & Conquer and Red Alert both are the best installers I've seen, but I don't remember the installer of Tiberium Sun as something remarkable (in fact, I don't remember it at all).

I have traveled across the universe and through the years to find Her.
Sometimes going all the way is just a start...

I'm selling some stuff!

C&C Renegade has a somewhat interesting installer as well.

BTW, there was a similar thread last year: Outrageous Installers

The Warcraft II installer deserves at least an honorable mention here.

Spoiler

Just keep clicking on the sound test button, if you've haven't tried that before. 😁
