Hi! I've been getting Exception 0E errors opening folders in Explorer on my Windows 98SE tower. It usually happens within two minutes of logging on but not necessarily immediately. It was working better for a short while overnight. What could be causing this? How can I fix this?

No. Is there a way to back up all this information from DOS? I have some flash drive I can use to hold the information and DOS-based USB and LFN drivers, and the flash drives must be large enough to hold all the information.

I will just delete the contents of Windows\, as that helped with another problem before. 😀

I did thar and lost a lot of settings. 🙁 The desktop icons are still there, though. 😀 Now, I have another problem: when I try to set a true-color mode, the computer screen blanks. 🙁 Before changing the settings, Windows says if the screen doesn't appear, wait 15 seconds, and the screen will be restored. That didn't happen. On the keyboard, the Caps Lock key doesn't work, but Ctrl+Alt+Del works. I can go with High-Color but really want True-Color.

Maybe it's because I have two monitors set up but only one connected. How do I remove the other monitor?

I don't know what happened, but it's working now. 😀 Let me try to see if Explorer is working properly now.

It's still giving me the error message but rarely. The system is usable now. 😀

Generally I'd advise against this as a method to solve problems on "unknown " installations. It's always best to start over with a format/reinstall and build up a working system step by step, driver by driver, that way when something goes haywire you know which step caused it.

I have had oe exceptions pop up with erratic/failing memory/cache timings or overclock too high

Umm...the problems are picking up again. 🙁

Have you tried a full reinstall yet? Complete with a good hdd redo with fdisk first. Often, if it's the hard drive failing it may become obvious at this stage with hangs or fdisk errors or formatting errors after

I really don't want to do a full reinstall of everything, as I have a whole lot of things installed on it, including some that were already installed on it. Myne: I will try to remember next time I'm at my mother's house.

I just remembered: the latest problem started when I disabled the floppy driver. How do I reinstall it in Safe mode? I know the Add New Hardware control panel but don't know here the driver is or what it's called. BTW, I'm not at my mother's house right now, so I can't apply any suggestions, but I might be there soon.
