Found this PS/2 Model 55 SX for sale very cheap so I bought it.

The Dallas battery was dead so I done the mod with CR battery.

Surprisingly the Mitshubishi floppy drive works great so no issues here, so I was able to boot with the reference disk to setup the system.

The 80mb HD was not booting and I noticed some corrosion in the caps, so decided to try replace them.
The weird part is that, after doing the auto config with the reference disk it still does not boot to C drive and the system does not throw any errors. It goes to the IBM basic terminal.

So I tried to boot using a msdos boot disk and for my surprise I am able to detect the HD and access C, I can see the files and even run the windows 3.1. The HD seems to work fine after booting with the dos boot disk.

Am I missing something? Or could it be that the HD is somehow faulty?

Found a post online stating that after replacing the Dallas RTC, its required to clear the CMOS before the configuration will take.

The method is to boot from a floopy, run DEBUG, and type

o 70 13
o 71 00
q

Then run the reference diskette and autoconfigure again.

Now everything works and boots fine.
These machines are really something from another level 😁

Bought a second MCA CF card from ZZXIO so that I can easily pass files. Kept the original Hard Drive to boot as primary.

I think the front HD panel is not correct, maybe from a model 30?

The 80mb HD has the integrated led on the left side, but the front panel has the led hole on the right side.

It would be cool to replace the white power switch with a red one.

If someone knows where to find one for sale at reasonable price, or maybe a 3D print model, let me know.
