So recently someone on Fb marketplace was selling one of those Magma expansion chassis’s. It’s paired with a cardbus card and a cable to connect the two. This lets you connect PCI cards (4 of em) to a cardbus supported notebook. Pretty nifty!

I think I’ve decided a goal for this. I’ve got a sweet little Sony Vaio. It’s a nifty little Pii subnotebook. But unlike many other subnotebooks of the era, it lacks any sort of good dock. Best you get is a vga dongle to output the not so hot internal video externally. I’d like to put together a sort of docking station for this little craptop

Picked out a sound card, a usb controller, I have an ide card on the way.
So far my soundblaster and usb card work a treat in the enclosure. But the video card I tried with (GeForce MX 5200) has some resource conflicts with the laptop. 😒

I’d like to get SOME video card working on here. And that GeForce was too new for my tastes anyway. So I wanted to replace it regardless. That was the only pci video card I had lying around. So my plan is to buy a few more and try to maybe come across one that works.

I’m thinking about picking up an original Radeon, a tnt2, a GeForce 2, and an M3d or some other powerVR card would maybe be interesting to try out.

Any other ideas on cards to throw at it? I figure with a shotgun approach I can probably find something that works
