Hi,

Recently got this MSI MS 6163 PRO board from scrap. Inspection revealed no broken stuff. Powered it on without issues.
Now, when I was getting ready to install 98se I came across a weird behaviour. The board hangs every time there are two drives present on one IDE bus.
I am using an 40pin cable (80pin made the same issue), 8GB HDD and philips combo drive, so HDD being too large isn't the cause. Everything works if there's one drive on the bus. BIOS isn't the latest (can't risk killing my only slot 1 board).

Anybody knows how to fix this behavior?

Are they set to Master/Slave or Cable Select?

They were set to master/slave and vice versa.

Turns out this BIOS hates linux-based OS'es. Didn't wanna boot into memtest86. After formatting it on anther pc, the board works fine, apart from me needing to power cycle the PSU every single time I want to use the board (idiot me shorted stuff on FP and now it hates me)

Sometimes weak CMOS battery causes weird issues.

Problem is, this one worked flawlessly on first boots. Even with a 3.1v cell it does the same thing...
