So I installed Fullburn, mounted the CD, and go to the Fullburn directory and type in "FB". DosBox pauses for a moment as if it's going to run the game, goes dark, but then returns to the command prompt and awaits input within the Fullburn directory.

I'm able to run Jetfighter 3 just fine with this process, but FB is not working. I'm still able to go into FB's install application and play around with sound/music, etc.

Any suggestions?

Did you install it within dosbox, or did you install in Windows first? Also, provide details of the installation process and whether it is the original CD.

Installed within DosBox by mounting the image file of the first CD. Installed to a directory from within DosBox.

It is the original CD (4-set CD bought off of eBay) from which I created a .iso image from. I used an image for JF3 as well and it works by mounting with PowerISO.

Just to make clear, did you mount the fullburn CD inside dosbox, or instead in PowerISO for installation? Also, list the relevant portions of dosbox.conf, such as the memory settings.

Mounted the first CD (there are 4 CDs) with PowerISO. Then mounted the CD inside of DosBox for both the installation process as well as trying to play it afterwards. It remains mounted at all times with PowerISO. It installed fine. I don't think it would have installed if it wasn't mounted properly??

I am not seeing a dosbox.conf file but I do see a DOSBox 0.74 Options.bat file.

The game is working for me with default settings in DOSBox 0.74, so I suspect misconfiguration. Please describe in detail the configuration options you have selected in the INSTALL.EXE program.

Can you guide me on how to post my configuration in Install.exe? I am somewhat new to this and just have the basics down on how to mount and run a game.

Just list all the options you're choosing regarding graphics, music and digital sound, controller, etc.

Within Fullburn's setup? It is:

3D Accelerator Setup:
-No 3dfx accelerator card (unsure which to choose?)

Setup Sounds
-SoundBlaster Pro (test sound works)
-Port 220h
-IRQ 5
-DMA 1

Setup Music:
-SoundBlaster 16 (test music works)
-Port 338

Setup Joystick:
-CH Products: F16 Combat Stick

DOSBox defaults the SoundBlaster IRQ to 7, so IRQ 5 is not correct unless you've changed it in the DOSBox settings.

Try this configuration in the game:

3D Card: No 3Dfx accelerator card
Sounds: Sound Blaster 16 - 16bit, port 220h, IRQ 7, DMA 5
Music: Sound Blaster 16 - 16bit, port 388h
Joystick: No Joystick

Once you get it working with the keyboard, then go back to trying with a joystick.

That didn't work, followed it to the letter. FB.EXE is the executable to launch the game, correct? It goes dark, then returns me to the command prompt.

I can reproduce that problem by installing the Fullburn demo in Win95 and then accessing inside dosbox-svn. The same problem has also been reported for the full installation of Fullburn (installing in 95). Others suggested that the 95 installation omits files which are required in accessing Fullburn from DOS. Unless dosbox-0.74 behaves differently than SVN in this example, it may be worthwhile to verify the number of files installed by the installer and the state of the original media.

I'm going to let it rest for now because JF3 Platinum Edition (with my beloved F14 Tomcat) just came in the mail today. Bought off eBay last week. I just installed it via the methods I listed above and it worked fine. I created an ISO of the CD and mounted that to install and play. Fullburn seems to be the problem.

I'll bump this thread again in a few weeks or months once I get the itch to try Fullburn again. Thanks for your help for now!

When playing the game in DOSBox you must mount the C: (hard disk) and D: (cdrom drive) the same way as when you installed the game in DOSBox. If you aren't sure you did that, then re-install and make sure you do.

The commands to install the game in DOSBox should look like:

mount c c:\dos
imgmount d c:\iso\jffb1.iso -t iso
d:
install

The commands to run the installed game in DOSBox should look like:

mount c c:\dos
imgmount d c:\iso\jffb1.iso c:\iso\jffb2.iso c:\iso\jffb3.iso c:\iso\jffb4.iso -t iso
c:
cd jffb
fb

Make sure that you're using default settings in DOSBox. For Windows DOSBox 0.74 you can use the installed menu shortcut to reset settings if necessary: DOSBox-0.74 > Options > Reset Options. When you're sure you're using default settings, configure the game as I described in my previous comment.

If it's still not working then your copy of the game is different than what I have, or perhaps there is something wrong with your disc images. I'm not sure why Win9X installations are being mentioned, but if you don't have a DOS-based INSTALL.EXE on disc one then maybe the DOS support is broken in that release. For comparison with what I have, here is the directory info for the main executable files on disc one:

FB.EXE 17,230 08-06-1998 14:34
JFFB.DAT 1,162,051 10-06-1998 15:19
JFFBX.DAT 3,942,791 15-06-1998 15:27

Hate to necropost
I am trying Fullburn with Staging 0.82 and DosboxDaum
All is good with config, dosbox(es) are starting but executable FB.exe is failing, and back to dos prompt
With DosBox 0.74 it is working
