The reason the Radeon 9250 sucks so badly in 3D games is because it has no hardware Transform and Lighting (T&L).

Uh, really no - it is RV280 core, so hw T&L and 4x1 pixel pipeline/TMU + 2 vertex pipes (PS 1.4, VS 1.1, OpenGL 1.3). It is weak due to slow clock, mainly when it has 64bit memory interface too.

@Studiostriver: I'm sorry, but I can't keep my promise and try out the DVI output on TV. It's a shame, but it wasn't until ten years later that I noticed that our TV didn't have a DVI input. It's an older piece (Sharp LC39LE650) and only VGA, HDMI and VIDEO-IN inputs can be connected to the computer.

As for the X800, it should theoretically work if those ATI cards don't make DOS games a problem. The X800 is faster than the GF6600GT, so you should do better in the newer XP games, in DOS it doesn't matter.
Similarly powerful (slightly weaker) as the GF6600GT is the X700 PRO with the DDR3 if you couldn't get the X800 series.

PCI for DOS games is fine, but you don't have TV VGA input, so I don't know how you would connect it. DVI-I to VGA convert goes, VGA to DVI doesn't.

Hey i use DVI to HDMI converter. 😀 It works like a charm since signal is digital to start with.

I made it work! On Doom i have to lower resolution from 800x460 to 800x400 and it works. I did testings with 9600, it worked in any resolution when its about doom. Nvidia GF 6600 GT simply has driver bugs no matter which one i install.
Also i`ve found a way to play DOS games! I press alt/ctrl/del and after that i return to game and all of sudden screen appears! Extremely weird and bizarre but it works!

I tried Wizardry 8 on 9600 Pro 128 and GT 6600 and difference in performance is so big that i will never return to this card eve again. Its around 25fps more which makes me game actually work and not stutter all the time and big screen and too much enemies going at the same time.

GeForce FX 5600 works fine in both DOS and Windows 98, although compatibility is not as great as with GeForce 4600/4800. GeForce 6600 can have compatibility issues with some titles due to drivers that are too new. ATI cards can have issues with DOS games.

Pentium III 900E, ECS P6BXT-A+, 384MB RAM, GeForce FX 5600 128MB, Voodoo 2 12MB, Yamaha SM718 ISA
Athlon 64 3400+, Gigabyte GA-K8NE, 2GB RAM, GeForce 9800GT 512MB, Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
Phenom II X6 1100, Asus 990FX, 32GB RAM, GeForce GTX 980 Ti

So far i had zero problems with DOS games on all ATI based card i experienced so far. NVIDIA 6600 GT i`v found work around. If that did not happen i would get me another card. I guess its just what luck you get with other components those gpus are paired with.
