I've got a CT3600 I'd like to de-CQM, and while I have the skills and resources to do it what I don't have is a YMF-289B. They seem to have become incredibly expensive (and a little hard-ish to find). I'm getting quotes for as high as $87 USD for just one chip, and the best price I've seen is around $40 USD. I really just need the one. I've been looking at eBay for perhaps a broken card I could steal one from, but it's not worth it to steal it from a working card just to de-cqm another - that makes no sense.

I have no idea where the demand is coming from, I can't imagine it's just from de-cqming a few old sound blasters, but if anyone has one or knows where I can get one at a reasonable price, please let me know!

They were used on the Orpheus I project - before that, they were quite cheap and afterwards things went to the YMF-262M with prices skyrocketing.
Maybe prices might return to more normal realms over time, with that demand now removed, but who knows...

I was using the YMF-289B before, also, but switched to the YMF-262 as well.

Looks like Denjhang has one 289 left in stock. I buy all my chips from him. His prices may not be the cheapest, but he is probably the only regular seller that has hardware to fully test them. He will often find a cheaper shipping method if you contact him first.

Unfortunately he still wants quite a lot for them. Landed it would cost me over $100 CAD. Just not worth it 🙁. Also the low CAD isn't helping any. Thanks for the lead though. I might just bide my time for it and keep an eye out for a dead/bad condition CT2900/2911/2919 that might appear on eBay I can steal one from.
