That Xeon E-2278Gis a nice little pocket rocket.

I work with both Intel and AMD and find each has its advantages and issues, Intel is usually better for workflow and AMD is better at gaming and heavily multi threaded tasks. I find Windows to be a bigger issue with high core chiplet CPUs since its thread scheduler is utter garbage still but this problem exists for both Intel and AMD CPUs it becomes a bigger problem with the X3D multi CCD AMD ones however. One day MS will figure out how to handle these asynchronous CPUs correctly but right now .. its hit and miss.

I had to pick one ...I can happily say the 10980XE has been a rock solid CPU and has to this date never had any show stopping problems and aside from it not being as fast as more modern CPUs I cant fault it.

VME Broken on AMD Ryzen

I got a good deal on the Xeon. It arrived damaged and I was issued a refund. I was able to repair it, although soldering onto the underside of a CPU was a royal pita.

Oh, and the motherboard shipped without a cover on the LGA socket with various detritus floating around inside the box. Building this system was fun times, for sure.

Turns out is was fixed the same year it was reported. Seems each Revision of Ryzen would need this AGESA update to refix the issue.

Yeah soldering something that small is not for the faint of heart or unsteady of hand, Glad you got it fixed and working.

I thought the Slot1 board was a bit unusual, with SIMMs and no AGP. I immediately recognized the RIMM modules of the other one and knew it had to be S423. Got my own 423 board now, pretty excited for that.
Misc. items: ATI Rage XL, Adaptec 2930CU, and a box of 3M 3.5" floppies.

And a few floppy drives, also untested. The Toshiba is pretty cool. It's got a flapper-door like some of the 8" floppy drives.

Got to test and slim down my collection before my income is further reduced to pension levels 😀

Good news, it works perfectly after 1h of 3DMrk 2000, no graphical glitches and the cooler seems to do a decent job 😀 So it's my first GeForce 4 since the 4400 Ti I had back then 😀

Thanks! That is totally it. The manual doesn't have the pinout for the "AUX" power connecter. Most of the PSUs I have with that connector have 3 GND, 2 +3.3V, and a +5V. I've heard this can be different. (weird dell connectors, etc)

Nice! Make sure you keep it cool. If you haven't already, it is probably worth reapplying thermal paste (unless it uses a thermal epoxy, then I would leave it alone). The Geforce 4 Ti series are awesome cards but they tend to run a bit toasty, so anything you can do to keep it cool will add to its lifespan.

I still have an original Zalman "Flower" cooler for GPUs, it seems like a good time to use it 😀 Looks like some actual chinese knockoffs exist on aliexpress; I'll also have a look at those to upgrade some other old/toasty GPUs I have. Too bad the 3dfx card have this epoxy 🙁

Thanks! I knew it seemed older than ANY of my Slot boards. I got it booted and it was from a Packard Bell of some kind.

I would've been SOOO surprised if I got home and it wasn't 423. That would've actually been a pretty awesome surprise.

Picked up a nice "Boxed" BFG 7800GS OC. I mean the box is pretty beat up but hey, still a box. 78$ on the bay, which is pretty good at least for eBay prices.
Its in great condition its'self though, almost like new. replaced the thermal paste on the core and bridge chip and she sings! Idles at 33*C

Its a G71 Core, which is pretty cool. that should mean the OC room is pretty high. It does have the extra shaders, seemingly cut, though riva tuner shows them existing and off. They don't initiate, when selected.

All in all pretty cool! Very Fast.

The box shows some wear, but from what I see in that photo, I wouldn't call it beat up! Nice find either way 😀 If BFG still existed, it would still be covered by the lifetime warranty 😀

As @dionb says Intel Portland PD440FX, but the Gateway OEM version. As Gateway never issued a BIOS update for their board ( should be 1.00.01.DT0T if it hasn't been overwritten with an Intel version) might be worth dumping the Gateway BIOS as it's not available on The Retro Web - https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/intel- … x-portland#bios

Given the era, with k6 cache enable via smd caps/resistors on the die, and your pics, they mount be enabled by populating the empty spaces in your chip.
Find photos of the fully enabled die.

Didn't expect to find... an Advent 5480DVD, of all things. Might have to fiddle with it a bit as the LCD case is kinda cracked at hinges and it won't see a 60GB HDD tho I wouldn't put it past the drive I used to be dead.

I also have the Tualatin-capable Gericom counterpart, the Geritec 1230i.
