That doesn't seem right. Don't provide anything until the situation is clear.

If the payment went through they should have everything to ship your order. Get in contact with the official support and write your issue.

Sounds fishy indeed... Is it the seller that is asking for this, or AliExpress?

I've probably placed an order every two weeks for the last 3 years... The worst that happened was when I ordered a SD2IDE adapter and the shop contacted me saying their selling price was too low to include shipping and required to pay an extra $0.80 or something like. Which I did and received the item two weeks after... Other than that when I order a single item for less that $2-3 you have a high chance of never receiving it; that's why I always take their "Choice" or Bundle option...

I've only bought from ali express twice, but both were "normal".

i've gotten things from TEMU (basically the same thing) and they specifically warn you about this exact thing being a scam.

I tried and failed to buy something on aliexpress. First I added items to the 'shopping cart' but no matter how many times I did that, it showed the cart as empty. I thought maybe I needed to register an account first, but it was not clear how to do that. By chance I discovered that if I put a wrong email address into the box on the login page, then a 'register' button would magically appear. But when entering a real email address there was no button or any other hint as to how one might register. I can only assume that someone has already fraudulently created an account using my email address, or the address/domain is blacklisted for some reason. Add it to the list of many other sites that will not get money from me because their system is broken.

I've ordered from Aliexpress many many times over the years. One package got lost. Got three or so rebadged/not working components. And one time a recall for a flashlight which was unsafe to use according to EU regulations. For all cases I got a full refund without problems.

So for (I think) 100+ orders I am quitte satisfied. Delivery times have improved as well over the years. It's now around 7 to 8 days to get it from China and faster if it's shipped from within the EU. Just keep in mind to order only things for which you don't need any warranty after the first 2 weeks or so. Getting warranty after that period as well as the return costs makes it to much of a hassle.

Last bit of advice is to look how long the company exists on Aliexpress and the overall reviews. I rather pay a little more if the company is on Aliexpress already a bit longer and has an overall higher review score.

I also have that stupid security issue with Aliexpress. I am effectively blocked for God knows what security reason. Basically, the purchase gets cancelled, and when asking customer support about it, they can't figure out the reason, and they promise to investigate further, then they never come back. Trying to purchase from Canada.

I ordered many items at Aliexpress and never had any issues, usually you setup payment method before order being shipped, so this is weird.

You probably got email from scammer, not from Aliexpress (check header with technical details), so just ignore it and forward to Anti-Phishing Working Group: reportphishing@apwg.org

I've ordered a number of times from aliexpress, it's always gone smoothly. Agree it sounds like a scam.

Thanks for all the advice. I chatted with their so called customer service, and I felt like I was chatting with a bot. They just kept telling me to follow the procedure witch was no help at all. I payed through paypal so if I do not get the item I will file a dispute.

my first purchase was the same. they locked my account as soon as I added items to my cart. they wanted me to send them a text but I had no cell phone.

My only experience with AliExpress was trying to buy a replacement flyback for a CRT monitor. The seller seemed legit, the listing had several pictures of the exact model I needed and it was apparently a factory that made transformers, they even included data about the company's history with pictures of the factory and all. So I bought it for around USD 30 (shipping included).

A couple of days after the purchase, they sent me a tracking number indicating that the item had shipped. However, it was a fake tracking number which didn't appear on any tracking sites even after waiting for a couple of weeks. So I had to go through the hassle of opening a dispute which was obviously resolved in my favor after some time. That experience left a sour taste so that was effectively the end of my AliExpress journey. Maybe it was just bad luck, but one thing I find tremendously annoying is the lengths some of these sellers go with their bullshit... why mark it as shipped with a fake number? What's the point of it all?

I have bought on several occasions small stuff similar to what is sold on Amazon at a higher price such as m2 to IDE adapters, USB FPGA programmers or cables and it has been fine so far for a fraction of the Amazon price.
Now i have ordered some Star Trek and Star Wars figurines for my boy. Will see how it goes.

About a week after we used direct payment instead of PayPal to buy some adapters from Aliexpress with a friend of mine, he was 'mysteriously' notified by his bank's phone app of two attempted transactions valued 700 USD from Southwest Airlines... Luckily he didn't have enough account balance as it was merely a prepaid card.
