Haha that's a rare sight in a modern-ish ATX tower case 😁

...It works just fine...but had to crimp a couple of IDC connectors onto a long 34 wire ribbon...to make a custom cable...motherboard to the shugart before the twist...then back to the 3.5" floppy after the twist.
I wanted the 360k as B:
..which I guess is the reverse of convention on most commercial cables....and of course it had to be about 2 foot long to be practical.

Hopefully close to completion now..
The 5v 3amp psu 'wall wart' and female panel mount barrel connector arrived an hour ago..
drilled and fitted..
Works pretty good ..but somehow I will have to construct some sort of cover for the space where the battery used to be..
Sadly I didn't get this part.
doh!

..The only reason I haven't refitted the keyboard as yet..is that this gives access to the ram chips.
I have 4 on order from China..
TOSHIBA ZIP-20 TC514400AZ-60
So hopefully I can add these and max out the memory.

Following this post closely. Well done on the mods so far. I too have the winsx travelmate 3000. Unfortunately when this unit was decommissioned before I brought it in a job lot, they removed the top cover, the hdd and cut out a capacitor on the motherboard.
Now I have been studying your photos as the capacitor is the big one visible under the top cover behind the connector for the modem.
Unfortunately I cannot get a good look at the rating. I'm guessing it's a 1000uF 6.3v electrolytic as this was suggested by a user on VCF.
I'm hoping you could grab a picture to confirm this for me please. Then I can get it up and running again.
I too have been charging the battery up outside the unit then trying to get it powered up, I had no idea about the missing cap at first.
I'll attach a picture to show the missing cap, just the legs remain in the board. Lol. Thanks again, hope you can help me, info on this little 386 is as rare as hen's teeth.
Keep building and have a blast.. cheers.😊👍🍻

Also following along with my Sharp model equivalent, appreciate all the information here.

My Sharp PC-6600 laptop came sans power supply as well so will review these pictures.

Hello. Lets dig out this tread.

I have bought a Texas Instruments Travelmate 3000... It had a little battery leak.. bu i think i'm ok.

i've built a new power connection, tapping in to the battery connectors.. and using a ATX power Supply - Fotos below.

It powers on... the leds are on. it seems to be ok... but ..nothing on the screen and nothing on the external monitor.

My question is. the battery had some type of resistor soldered on. Is it necessary ?
