Wondering if this board can run at higher multipliers or not? Docs say it caps out at x5

I have a 833 that runs at 6.5 x 133 and I'm wondering if it would work in this board... I know sometimes BIOS updates after release added further compatibility that isn't written in the manuals.

I have the uATX variant, but never tried with anything above Klamath-300.

It's not about multipliers, the CPU has a factory "superlocked" multiplier and it will never run at anything except 6.5
The problem you are facing is the voltage that the motherboard can provide. You'd have to check the datasheet of the buck switching controller, to see if it's able to provide voltages lower than 1.8 (based on the TheRetroWeb information, it seems that not - but this might not be entirely accurate, or it might depend on the motherboard revision).

Looking at the pictures, it seems to have a "HIP6004" controller.
If it's a HIP6004BCB, your Coppermine will work fine (you might need a BIOS update, though).
If it's a HIP6004ACB, then your Coppermine won't receive any voltage and it won't post, so you'd have to replace the chip with a HIP6004BCB (you can find them for sale on eBay).

EDIT: I tried to enhance one of the images from TheRetroWeb and it looks to me like a HIP6004BCB, so there is at least one revision out there that supports Coppermine CPUs.

I have this board, definitely used 1GHz P3 and 1.1GHz via slotket (needed a modded BIOS update for that).

Now I'm curious, never realised this board doesn't state Coppermine support anywhere in its docs.

So mine indeed has a HIP6004BCB

It's dated week 43 of 1999

Also it has colored I/O ports, this might be a more obvious differentiating factor.

The BIOS chip label says 6BTM0-N100A (the TRW one with black I/O ports says 6BTM0-H100A)

Thanks all.

I'll grab this board I think. I have a hot air station and a lot of soldering experience. So if it doesn't have the right voltage controller, I should be able to swap it out.

Of note, the 370 counterpart would be 6BJM0. I have one that I'm recapping as of writing this post, because it intermittently POSTs and only under certain conditions.

I had one as well, gave it to a friend who needed it for a car workshop (which still has some sort of proprietary ISA card for the car brake test platform).
Some months later I realized that it was actually my only socket 370 motherboard with the 440BX chipset. 🙁

That's why I recently started "racking" up some BX-flavoured 370s - they're interesting to deal with, especially since most have Coppermine support, and getting 133FSB chips running well on them is quite the fun ride on some.

A few I can enumerate from my collection at the moment:
- MSI MS-6153
- ABIT BX133-RAID
- Chaintech CT-6BJM0

The rest of my 370s are 815E (MSI 815EM Pro v5.1, a nice board IMO), 694x (Soltek SL-65KV2, LuckyStar 6VA694, ASUS CUV4X-M, technically 694D Pro-AR if dualCPU counts too 🤣) and that's about it. Mobile wise I have SiS630 as well.

Just following up on this one for future reference.

The board arrived with a HIP6004ACB voltage IC and as expected - would not post with Coppermine CPUs in the slot.

I ordered a HIP6004BCB from AliExpress and swapped them over.

The attachment 2020_0101_010845_001.JPG is no longer available

After the swap, at first the board wouldn't POST at all. The fans would spin up for a few seconds then cut out. I was just about to chuck it on the failed experiment (fix later) pile when I remembered this board is sometime a bit fussy about which RAM slots are used. Moved the single RAM stick to the slot furthest from the CPU and hey presto POST.

I'm using the patched 0817 BIOS from here - https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/chaint … ch-ct-6btm#bios

It has some very funny ideas about what processor is socketed and what multi/speed it is running at. But other than that, everything seems to be working correctly.

Board now accepts my 866 Coppermine and runs at 6.5x133 (reports as a Pentium III 650 on the POST screen and CPU-Z but runs at the correct 833 spec).

I believe this board should now also accept Tulatin CPUs on a basic slotket. I don't have one to try but I'll keep an eye out for one.

My 6BJM0 does the same about RAM. Mine pushes the ante up to 11 though, as 133 FSB chips seem to hang around POST, despite being supported.

No, it doesn't. You need a modded CPU or slotket (or one of the very rare Tualatin-ready Powerleap slotkets).

Ah fair enough - I saw that the BIOS says that it is Tualatin modded - wasn't sure if this mod made it possible to get the right voltage off the board as is.

I recently sold my 370 Powerleap adapter...
