The 4GB limit is in all the file handling API, or rather the sizes may be 64bit, but Windows only uses the lower 32bits and there's even a bug where a signed compare is used in some function resulting in errors above 2GB (but a patch exists for that).

Okay, I'm currently performing a test with ImgBurn and making a CD image using a load of installed game files/folders that total over 4.5GB. It seems to be putting it together without issue so far. So if that works, I should be able to transfer the image's contents across in chunks like was suggested. So thank you for that. 😀

Huh? Why are you doing that?
The reason I suggested extracting the files from the image is so that you could avoid using a 4+ gig image. 🤦‍♂️

I've probably misunderstood what you meant. But that test was for my own curiosity to see if it could make images above 700MB-1GB+. Hadn't done it before and no image files have been bigger than 700+MB so far. The main file (or folder) on this image, that takes up 4GB, is the DATA folder. Everything else is tiny in comparison. I don't mind putting together a 4 gig image on the 98 machine, once all the files are present, but I first need a bigger ATX case and then a new HDD for games. So I can keep all my image files on my 80GB drive.

Cool. I might have to give it a try and see. 😁

EDIT: Doesn't look like it's going to. The image transfers to the USB no problem, but under 98, it recognises it as FAT only and asks it to be formatted. 😒

I'd recommend setting up networking on the PC, It'll be a bit of work to get going but once done it makes things like this, copying files, disk space, etc a non issue.
Everyone holds off but once its set up you'll wonder how you lived without it!
