hi
got a 4coredual sata build here - works fine with hd3850 and a gtx570 and 4gb ram win7 32bit and xp etc - so ive got my hands on a gtx590 but it doesnt post on the asrock board - but i does display/post on a std intel pcie 3 mobo - so the card works but not in either my asrock board or a gigabyte combo board = not posting with the PCIe x4 slot . isnt there something in the bios that needs to be disabled for these Fermi nvidia cards to work ie they dont like ?????

GTX590 is a double GPU solution. We've got several reports in this thread (including the op) that they don't work in this motherboard.

MB: Asus P3B-F 1.03 (2x ISA)
CPU: PIII-S 1.4GHz/VIA C3 800MHz
RAM: 256MB PC133
Video: GeForce 4600Ti/Voodoo 5 5500/Voodoo 3 3500 for DOS Glide
Audio: SB16 OPL3 + Audigy Platinum Ex
OS: Windows 98

the switch on the card needs at least 8 lanes coming from the slot is my guess.

test the card in an x4 slot on the board where it worked otherwise.

Ok i answer myself, hope this could be hellpful for someone with the same issues as me.

I updated my bios from 1.10 to 2.20 (last one) and changed from the nvidia gforrce 210 to an ati hd 5450.

Now works perfect with full opengl and catalyst drivers correctly installed.

The only thing i didnt try was to re-install the gforce gt 210 with d rivers again, but either the graphic ca rd is faulty or this motherboard (4coredual sata 2) is more compatible with ATI cards.

So yeah that solved my nightmares trying to install a pci express graphics card on this motherboard .

If i try the gt210 i will post here results.

Regards.

Hi, sorry for being late but seeing as you still have issues with gt210 and haven't mentioned disabling pcie features in Bios, this might be it? At least the symptoms sound pretty familiar.

For better compatibility with some pcie cards you need to disable both of these features, as mentioned in op:

PCIE Downstream Pipeline to DISABLE (Auto is default)
PCIE VC1 Request Queue to DISABLE (Auto is default)

Have you tried that?

Hi,

I think i did changed it, but not sure if bios 1.10 has those optiones, anyways now that the ati ehd5450 works wich is better card than the nvdia gt210 iam not gonna go back to nvdidia.l

Maybe one day i could try for just solve the mistery but to be honest once you find a solution better dont mess with it and broke again windows.

And finally iam not pretty sure if my gt210 is fully working so thanks for the help.

Regards

genocho - actually i saw that just after i posted my question - ha ha - failed - but anyway i think i had already disabled that for the gtx570 to work on my asrock board - and tried that option in my combo board but no luck as well - its fine - trial and error - must be the dual GPUs these boards dont like even though the specs of the gtx590 matches the gtx 570 ie PCIE 2 , fermie 2 etc

2 questions:

Why not even bother read 1st post of the thread for info dual gpus not working on this board?

How is a GTX590 valued at 300$?

It depends on other factors
Video card (VBE)
Sound card (DSDMA / TSR)
Amount of RAM installed and HIMEM configuration
CPU speed / slowdown capabilities

In itself the chipset of the board is officially supported by win98 drivers.

HI,

I can confirmn bios 2.20 now has those two options avalaible, in old 1.1 (the one from factory with the pcb) it isnt.

If one day try the nvidia gt210 i will post it here to confirm if it works.

For the moment ill stick to the ati hd5450 wich works like a charm.

Regards.

And that stupid AGP texturing memory bug. What a pity.

Can the motherboard be modified in any way so that quad cores can run permanently on the board, or is this not necessary?

4CoreDual boards support Quads by default (with reduced FSB speed).
Not sure if you can mod 775Dual-VSTA to support Quad Cores.
I think 775Dual-880 Pro can't support Quads.

775Dual-VSTA works with some quads with unofficial BIOS. It's the same board as 4CoreDual really.

Well, both have weak 4 phase VRM.

does anyone have 4gb under win 98 and a voodoo 5 pci running on the board?

i can confirm that the versions of the board without sata2 allow windows 98 to be installed via the sata 1 port. So you can avoid the use of adapters with ssds.

can anyone give me advice on overclocking a Q9550 on the board?

The chipset supports 4 GB of RAM, but it does not remap virtual address space.

my q9550 is only recognized with 2.27ghz, and when i try to increase the clock rate via fsb the bios data is reset, what do i have to pay attention to when overclocking the board? I don't want to invest in an XQ processor.
