S'more stuff from my contact:

- GA-6BXDS
- OR840
- K6BV3+/66
-MS6156
-GA-6BA

nyehehehe 🤣

I wanna know your contact! 🤣

Some chap I bought 3dfx cards from in the past. He works at a local recycling centre in Bucharest and gets around 250-300kgs of the "good stuff".

I counted like 5-10 HX boards this round, along with usual TX and VX. Snagged the OR480, XG-DLS and P5A as well as other goodies. Including yet another AU8830 card 🤣

So far I got like two 5AX 4.1s working along with the Terratec XLerate mentioned earlier. I theoretically have a fitting bracket for the XLerate... however I would rather not leave a YMF724 bracketless.

Another guy I have bought a 8820 from, I'll be getting a Kyro soon. I have some fun ideas coming up in the future 🤣

Does this eSupport-BIOS have some benefits over the regular 4.51?

So far I haven't seen any, but I suppose it might have been updated for the 128GB limit. I plan on swapping it with soggi's modded BIOS from the 5.2, as his BIOS (and all 5.x version BIOS, actually) does run on a 4.1 mobo - GB shared BIOS releases with the 4.1 and 5.x.

Bought it because I saw an empty socket. And it looks cool. And for synthetic benchmarks. Maybe scorched earth will run on it, maybe not.

With that FPU, you can mine Bitcoin on it now.

That's cool that they're using a full fat 486 DX in there. It's that 50Mhz? Does it need a heatsink or airflow to stay cool?

The most it can really do is dx2-50, that's what my first one had before I fried it 🙁
I put an Intel SX2-50 with a glued on heatsink in there and that matches the cooling setup the dx2-50 had previously, but this time I've added some cheap aliexpress non adhesive thermal pads to spread heat to the keyboard tray, since it's got no way to get airflow in there.

UPS just dropped off this lovely "upgrade" today.

The attachment GkE4ugKXAAAc1rY.jpg is no longer available

I was just looking for a little more juice in the system, going from 145W to 200W. But the fan on this unit turned out to be whisper quiet, which honestly made me tear up a little.

My ears are in heaven now. 🤤

Oh man, the yellow label made me twitch a little from PTSD. That isn't a relabeled Bestec is it?

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

Honestly, I don't have a clue. I just know systems with OEM PSU's are a pain in the ass. 😅

Worst example I've ever seen is the 460W PSU for my moms Dell Precision 530 Workstation, where the the entire foot of the case IS the PSU. 🤦‍♂️

Yeah, Dell did some weird stuff back in the day. A PSU that slide-locked into the bottom of the case was one of them.

Funny thing is... they really haven't changed at all.

Their midsize desktops are still a disastrous mix of wasted engineering time\energy and planned obsolescence.

I get the impression that this is some kind of deeply ingrained aspect of the way the company operates. Like, multiple levels of people creating nonsense busy-work to justify the existence of their job and to make use of engineering educations that would probably be better used in other fields.

Why else would you end up with nearly 25 years of atrocious proprietary case (and PSU, motherboard, I\O.....) designs that do not solve any actual problems? We know they don't solve any problems because the designs completely change every 5-10 years, and every generation gets more proprietary with more irritating quirks and worse thermal performance. They can't even use the excuse that the modern designs are there to make assembly faster, simpler and more reliable: Because the average modern desktop requires almost NO cards or even cables aside from power. In that vein, apparently the existence of a couple pre-wired front panel I\O connectors was a problem that needed engineered-away, giving birth to the idiotic L-shaped E-Waste boards with the front I\O built into the motherboard.

I will concede that Dell's SFF and Mini sized Optiplex systems have generally been nice designs that made good use of space, and were easy to swap parts in\out of, even if they were proprietary.

However, no PC has any business being ITX, MicroATX or ATX size while not using any of those standards.

I feel like OEMs like HP and Dell should have canned all of the engineers designing their midsize (and up) desktops 15-20 years ago, and instead used that money to periodically (when required by changes in components) buy current designs from companies that have the latest understanding of thermal management, acoustics and efficient use of materials. Imagine if the last 15 years of desktops from Dell\Alienware, HP and Lenovo used MicroATX or even ITX motherboards and all off-the-shelf compatible components and had good thermals and acoustics.

... but yeah... something something shareholders... profits... etc.

Bleh.

😂

Needless to say, it killed any notion of re-using the chassis, when the motherboard succumbed to capacitor plague.

A real shame.

Think that dual s604 Xeon I have in storage might be using that same form factor - it's a Dell too ..

If it's dual it's kind of cool ... 😎

Picked up this nice Slot A Thunderbird 900Mhz from the bay for 68$. I pounced on it because I'm just a huge sucker for that golden orb cooler. Of course another 900Mhz T-bird is always welcome as well.

Once again this 900 T-bird has a 1Ghz core!! That's two in a row now. I'm starting to wonder if they all of 1Ghz Cores, either that or I'm getting wicked lucky. Maybe AMD only manufactured 1ghz cores and stuck them in everything with the resistors on the board changed to lower the values??

Has any one else opened a 900 Box and received a lower core rating?? Heck I might even pick up a 800 and peak under the hood.

My guess is only "MMR" models might have had 1GHz+ cores - I have a 700MHz "MPR" T-Bird and the core is also rated for 700.

(the reason I say 1GHz + is because I just recently saw a 900MHz model with a 1100 core.)
