Hi, I’m trying to run Windows 98 SE in my MacBook Pro via Bootcamp. I installed Windows on VMware first and then copy the image to my Disk to boot it directly via Plop or NTLDR.

The initial booting process was kind of success but when I try to continue booting it hung up. I turned on boot logging and I found that VKD loading caused this laptop to hung up. I’m currently trying to find out how to temporarily disable VKD loading but unfortunately until now I cannot make it to disable loading that.

Any advice on this problem? I tried using HIMEMX and XMGR both produce the same problem. Thanks!

Bootcamp's BIOS emulation is limited to Windows XP and later versions. There are deeply limited and hack methods but thet are to weak to be anything then proof of concept.

Need help? Begin with photo and model of your hardware 😉

Thanks for the info. Do you have any references to the hack methods? Did the methods boots successfully to the desktop?

As i remember there are hacks and installation in full automation mode to vga 640x480x16 colours desktop, but it unusable since it do not support keyboard/trackpad/usb and other devices.

Okay so what you mean is I can try to reinstall from scratch using automated install, right? So the next thing would be the USB drivers.

It’s Ok, just booting up to the desktop with working USB keyboard and/or mouse for input is good enough for me. 😉

This is something that I want to do just so I know if this can be done or not.

Nope!
External USB keyboards/mouses dont work too (with Win98 and NUSB drivers) - no input at all(((
