I just got hit with the flu and it is no joke. I would even call it a COVID-lite. Many people in my family caught it and I accidentally spread it to my Mom before my fever hit.

Please be careful, everyone, and stay safe this flu season.

This old geek also happens to work in healthcare, so avoiding it is unfortunately not an option for me. 😜

Yeah, it can hit pretty hard, my wife and I both just had the flu. Thankfully symptoms only lasted a couple days, at lease for us.

Honestly, having Covid was vastly milder in my case. I was mostly asymptomatic. The bout of flu really tired me out, slitting headache. Wife did the same but she also got the cough and heavy chest with congestion. Thank goodness for good OTC meds.

I hope you guys get the flu shot each year (especially if you are older).

Unfortunately, 'anti-vaxers' and their messages of "Vaccines cause autism", "Vaccines contain tiny mechanical tracking devices so the government can monitor you", and "Vaccines don't work anyway, they're just a government plot" are becoming more and more common. Still a very small part of the population, of course, but they are gaining in numbers. And costing lives.

The world seems to get stupider every day.

Being a recluse has its benefits. The last time I had any sort of illness related to a cold or flu was when the second Moderna shot laid me out for a day in 2021. I live with a relative and she came down with covid in 2022 IIRC, so at that point I fully expected to get it myself, and was very surprised when I didn't. It has actually been a surprisingly long streak; the last actual cold I had was a very nasty summer cold in 2019.

These reports of a particularly bad flu this year have me considering getting a flu shot, something I used to make sure and do when I was working, but have fallen out of the habit since becoming a NEET.

After watching many YouTube videos about older computer hardware, YouTube began recommending videos about trains - are they trying to tell me something?

I usually don't follow the fashion. I never got COVID, but got influenza instead when that was the big thing everyone was having. Last time when influenza was the big hit, I went through the season without even a cold.

I was in bed 2 days in a lot of pain but based on the steady ongoing congestion and coughing + extreme fatigue it looks like I’m going to have at least a full week of being almost non-functional.

Day 5 and I’m able to get around, try doing the simplest of tasks for a half hour and I knod off.
Strangely this is the first day I can think even though I’m still loopy

Appetite isn’t there yet and if I do eat much I regret it, quite strange having all 3 problems at once.

Haven't had influenza in years. I did have Covid for the first time over the holidays and it was brutal. Took about 1 month of recovery to get past the initial symptoms, but I've still got lingering issues from that disease including chronic insomnia and migraine-like symptoms.

I haven't done any retro computing stuff (builds, h/w repair) for the past few months because of it. Just getting through a normal workday leaves me exhausted.

For this reason, I've also re-upped my social distancing. I've limited trips out of the house and always mask up when going anywhere.

I was directly exposed to it a week ago, but I didn't catch it.

I still don't know what I had two years ago. I was coughing for a month.

I just joined the club last Tuesday, but I only realized it was the flu late Wednesday night.

I have spent the last four days 90% in bed. Fever has been better today for the first time, as has the cough. Dizziness is mostly gone. Fatigue and "delirious" feeling (hard to describe) are still there. I hope that I will be well enough to work Monday.

I do not remember ever feeling this bad for this long.

Just got it 2 weeks ago. It was kinda bad, but not absolutely terrible. I just had a fever and fatigue for a few days. I don't get flu shots though, since the last time I had one it caused leg paralysis for several years so my doctor advised not to get them anymore.

I already had this new flue (fairly sure as people around me also got it and some were ill for several weeks), but wasn't too bad for me. It was similar to covid except that 'it didn't break fully through' and a week later I was doing my regular stuff again. Mostly a runny nose for a week and feeling a bit colder, chilly and less energetic for a few days. Covid was worse for me.

It probably wasn't covid because none of the people around me that got it tested positive and my last covid self-test I used up fall last year when it did test positive.

I think it's important to keep vitamine D levels up for cases like these since my levels were always too low regardless of how much sun I got.

Never knew this could be a thing just from getting a flue shot (I never had one but know a few people that do), must have been some very weird reaction or something?

Yes, it happens. Always read the vaccine insert for possible side effects. I was unlucky. My doctor now only recommends I take vaccines if it is medically necessary since we don't know what exact ingredient(s) caused the issue.
